Lloyd Leroy Roberts, 92, of Atlantic, was born to Lewis and Leora Roberts on February 4th,1933 at the family farmstead south of Lyman. He passed away on February 5th, 2025 at Atlantic Specialty Care.
Lloyd attended Griswold High School graduating in the Class of 1950. After helping on the family farm from 1950 to 1953, he enlisted in the United States Army on April 6, 1953. He was trained in field artillery at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. As a member of the 24th Infantry Division he was sent to Korea in October of 1953. After completing his service in Korea he returned with the 25th Infantry Division to Schofield Barracks in Oahu, Hawaii. He was honorably discharged on March 19th, 1955.
Lloyd was married to Sharon (Schuler) at Noble Center Church on September 25, 1955. They purchased their farm two miles west of Lyman in 1958. Lloyd continued to farm up until his retirement in 2001 and moved to Atlantic. He was a seed corn salesman for Farmer’s Hybrid and Asgrow Seed, school board member for Griswold Community Schools, a long-time 4-H and Cass County fair volunteer, Noble township trustee/clerk, volunteer at the Hitchcock House, member of: the Cass County Sesquicentennial and Mormon Trail committees, ARISE (Atlantic), Atlantic Lions, American Legion Post 508 in Griswold, Noble Center Methodist and Atlantic Methodist churches. Lloyd and Sharon were inducted in the Cass County 4-H Foundation in 2024. He was a lifetime fan of the Iowa State Cyclones.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Leora Roberts, sons, Terry and Todd and granddaughter, Makayla.
His survivors include his wife, Sharon Roberts of Atlantic. His sons: Dennis (Marie) Roberts of Clive; Brian (Jill) Roberts of Pella and Kurt Roberts of Ames. His grandsons: Aaron (April) Roberts of Westminster, CO; Adam Roberts of Bloomington, MN; Cael Roberts of Pella. Great-grandson: Lucas Roberts of Westminster, CO.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Friday, February 14th at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic with visitation prior at 10 am. Lunch will follow the service.
Burial will be at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be designated to Leader Dogs (Lions), Atlantic Armory or the Iowa 4-H Foundation and can be sent in care of Schmidt Family Funeral Home to P.O. Box 523 Atlantic, Iowa 50022.
Burial will be at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter at a later date.
