Lois Jean Hilsabeck, the daughter of Roy Edward and Hilda (Kristensen) Zinke was born on June 5, 1936 and died December 5, 2024 at the age of 88 years.
Lois was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa and remained a life-long member. She attended several rural schools and graduated from the Audubon High School with the Class of 1955. On December 7, 1955, she was united in marriage to Duane Hilsabeck at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa.
Lois was employed as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone in Audubon for 3 ½ years while Duane served in the United States Army. After Duane returned to the Audubon area, they farmed in Audubon County for over 30 years where they raised their three children, Greg, Jeff and Linda.
Lois helped Duane with the field work and milking cows. She also had a big garden so she could can and freeze produce to store for the winter months. She liked to sew, bake, read and be outside tending to her flower garden. Later in life, Lois worked at Jumbo Jacks Cookbooks in Audubon for 10 years.
Lois and Duane liked to watch football and basketball games and enjoyed square dancing. They were members of the Audubon Circle Square Dance club for many years. They also enjoyed watching NASCAR and attended several races at the Kansas Speedway.
Lois was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Duane Hilsabeck, her parents, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Virgil and Mae (Avey) Hilsabeck, her sister-in-law Sheryl (Musfeldt) Zinke, and niece Robin (Swanson) Kilgore.
Survivors include her three children and their spouses: Greg and Shannen Hilsabeck of Winterset, IA; Jeff and Anthon Hilsabeck of Adel, IA; Linda and Kenneth Joseph of Lenexa, KS; her seven grandchildren Hilary Hilsabeck of Rwanda, Africa, Hannah (Colton) Barnes of Cherokee, IA, Hunter (Brittany) Hilsabeck of Winterset, IA, Rachel Hilsabeck of Des Moines, IA, Daniel Hilsabeck of Adel, IA, Andrew Joseph of St. Louis, MO, Derek (Kelly) Joseph of St. Charles, MO; sister Shirley (Ron) Swanson of Audubon, IA; brother Rich Zinke of Audubon, IA; her five great-grandsons, nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.
The funeral service for Lois will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Audubon, with Pastor Chris Townsend officiating the service. Interment will take place following the funeral at Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon.
Visitation will be held one hour before the funeral held at the church on Thursday.
