Lois Jean Lawson, the daughter of Lorens Christian and Olga Marie (Sorensen) Nissen, was born July 1, 1936, in Audubon, Iowa and died January 4, 2022, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 85 years, 6 months, and 3 days.
Lois was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. She attended Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1954.
On July 11, 1954, she was united in marriage to Roy “Sam” Lawson at the Gray Methodist Church in Gray, Iowa. They were blessed with two children Kurt and Lana. They lived east of Ross, Iowa where they farmed for a number of years then moved into Audubon. Along with raising her family, Lois worked outside the home off and on over the years. Lois and Sam enjoyed Square Dancing and Camping. They were members of the Audubon County Travelers. Lois was a good cook and loved to bake. She enjoyed putting jig-saw puzzles together and playing cards and thoroughly enjoyed
having coffee with her friends. Sam died on July 24, 2008. Lois continued in her role as a beloved mother and grandmother.
Preceding her in death was her husband Roy “Sam” Lawson; her parents; her sister and brother Ruth Heiken and David Nissen; her sisters-in-law: Edith and husband Reuben Stoberl, Grace and husband George Campbell, and Wanda and husband Allie Tigges.
Survivors include her children Kurt and wife Terri Lawson of Carroll, Iowa and Lana Brown of Allen, Texas; her grandchildren: Tera Lawson of Ames, Iowa, Chad and wife Kelly Lawson and Jacob Lawson all of Carroll, Iowa, and Heidi Kessell of Allen, Texas; her great grandchildren: Caden Lawson, Emma Lawson, and Olivia Lawson all of Carrol, Iowa, and Haley Kessell of Allen, Texas; her sister; Vickie and husband David Featherstone of Johnston, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Saturday morning, January 8, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. The family requires that masks are worn. Inurnment of the cremains will be in the Arlington Heights Cemetery at a later date.
