Loretta Siedelmann, 92, of Gretna, Nebraska, and formerly of Casey, Iowa, passed away Monday, December 1, 2014, at Silver Ridge Assisted Living in Gretna, Nebraska.
She was born in Adair County, Iowa, on May 25, 1922, the daughter of Walter and Mathilda "Tillie" (Hofmeister) McMurphy. Loretta grew up in rural Adair County and attended country school through the eighth grade. She was united in marriage to Wayne Siedelmann on September 25, 1941. Wayne and Loretta farmed together until retiring to Arkansas in 1991. After Wayne's death on November 3, 1994, Loretta moved to Kentucky and then later to Gretna, Nebraska.
Loretta spent most of her life as a farm wife. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. Her greatest joy was her family. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Casey, Iowa.
She is survived by her daughter, Marcella (Jim) Ernst of Omaha, NE; her son, Daryl (Janice) Siedelmann of Greenwood, IN; her grandchildren, Barbara (Tom) Hackett of Polk City, IA, Brenda (Steve) Van Vossen of Hastings, MN, Curtis (Sharlotte) Peterson of Van Meter, IA, Connie (Dale) Brown of Redfield, IA, and Dr. Jason (Michelle) May of Greenwood, IN; her great-grandchildren, Kevin, Matthew, Timothy, Kirk and Joseph Hackett, Alyssa, Alexis and Olivia Van Vossen, Caden, Cason and Cohen Peterson and Maddox and Boston May; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Tillie McMurphy; her husband, Wayne; her daughter, Mary Peterson; sister and brother-in-law, Ida and Bruce Schwenneker; brother, Richard McMurphy; and her brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Betty McMurphy.
Per Loretta's wishes a memorial service will take place at a later time.
