Lorne W. Hupp

February 14, 1939 — October 3, 2015

Lorne W Hupp, 76, passed away early Saturday morning, October 3, 2015 at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital.
Lorne was a twin, born on February 14, 1939, to Theodore and Nora (Sapp) Hupp in Carroll, Iowa. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Viola High School in 1957. He married his best friend and love of his life, Marlene O’Tool, on September 27, 1958 in Scranton, Iowa. They settled in Audubon in 1965 where they raised their six children. He cherished his 25 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Lorne worked as a surveyor out of high school and went on to farm. Later he was an over the road truck driver for 27 years hauling all types of freight. After retiring from driving, he was a truck mechanic, machinist, and owner of Hupp’s T-Bone Club, a local restaurant. He was a practical, creative, and natural handy man who loved working with his hands and finding the usefulness in everything. He was proud of the garage/addition to their home and waterfall he created of mostly repurposed materials from a sketch drawn on wallpaper. His handiwork can be found in his home and the homes of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching westerns, traveling, and spending time outdoors with family; hiking, hunting, fishing, sitting by his waterfall/firepit and especially the fall harvest with his son-in-law Curt. Everyone enjoyed watching him and Marlene dance; they often cleared the dance floor.
Lorne was preceded in death by his parents Ted and Nora Hupp; his siblings James, Berthal, and Lorene Hupp; his brother-in-law Bob Gilliam; his nephew Tom Durbin; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Lawrence and Dorothy O’Tool; his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Sharon Goldin, Duane O’Tool, and Jane Ann O’Tool.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marlene Hupp of Audubon; his children Marty Hupp of Grimes, IA, Rick and wife Laurel Hupp of Overland Park, KS; Cindy and husband Curt Petersen of Audubon, IA, Karen and husband Rob Robertson of Holly Springs, NC, Sheri and husband Mark Draisey of Grimes, IA and Lorne Jr. and wife Angie Hupp of Platte City, MO. Twenty five grandchildren, Kaleb Hupp, Amy (Zack) Riehemann, Jason (Courtney) Hupp, Rachael (Joe) Milliken, Jared Hupp, Rebecca and Luke Ray; Brandi (Nick) Pierce, Jamie (Megan) Petersen, Danielle and Taylor Petersen, Brittany and Meghan Robertson; Beau and Kaitlyn Johansen, Taylor and Tanner Draisey, Connor Johansen, Allissa, Brianne, Joslyn, Jalynn, Evangelynn, Michael and Gabriel Hupp. Great grandchildren, Jax and Brody Riehemann; Tucker, Emery and Grady Hupp; Harley Milliken; Evyn Ray, his sister Marlene Gilliam, twin brother Lowell (Kay) Hupp, sister-in-law and brothers-in-law Lois (John) Zimmerman, Larry (Sandra) O’Tool and Dean (Janet) O’Tool, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
