Lorraine I. South, 75, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away at her residence Sunday, February 11, 2007, following a long courageous battle with cancer.
Lorraine was born November 30, 1931, in Pearson, Wisconsin, the daughter of Al and Alice (Monnot) Nonnemacher.
She attended the Eagle River School System in Eagle River, Wisconsin, where she graduated from high school.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.
Lorraine married Joe Zweck (1955-1962), Howard Dowell (1971 until his death in 1988), and then Marvin South in 1989 until his death in 1991.
She moved from Denver, Colorado to Atlantic, Iowa in 1988. Lorraine had worked as a property manager in Denver, retiring in 1988.
Lorraine's friends and family will miss her greatly but will find peace in the love and laughter that she has blessed them with.
Surviving Lorraine are four daughters; Bonnie Wachholz and her husband Lee of Beloit, Wisconsin, Cathy Wilson of Atlantic, Iowa, Susan Brown and her husband Tom of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, Wanda Hatfield and her husband Rory of Brighton, Colorado; one son, Alan Zweck of Janesville, Wisconsin; one brother, Maynard Nonnemacher and his close friend,Charlene Gayten of Portola Valley, California; one honorary daughter; Jo James of Atlantic, Iowa, 12 grandchildren, Cheryl Thornton and her husband, Eric of Janesville, Wisconsin, Wesley Chase and his wife, Shannon of Whitehouse, Texas, Jennifer Bue and her husband, Dan of Jacksonville, Florida, Mark Brown of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, Ryan Hatfield of Brighton, Colorado, A.J.Hatfield of Brighton, Colorado, Blake Zweck of Janesville, Wisconsin, Samantha Zweck of Stoughton, Wisconsin, Stacey Van Aernam and her husband, Allen, John Bengel and his wife, Chrissy, Chris Bengel and his wife, Erica, and Cody James and his wife, Michelle, all of Atlantic, Iowa. He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren, Alexa, Leah, Brandon, Jake, Avery, Noah, Alec, Brittaney, Austin, Allen, Jr., Curcland, Marah, Carter, Taylor and Taliya; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would also like to acknowledge and give special thanks to Dr. Dana Shaffer for his years of tender, loving care; and also to her hospice nurses whom she referred to as "her angels", for helping us in her hours of need.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alice and Al Nonnemacher of Eagle River, Wisconsin; her sister, Leona Tomlanovich of Eagle River, Wisconsin; infant sons, Kenny and Karl; her granddaughter, Betty Jo Chase; her husbands, Howard Dowell of Colorado and Marvin South of Atlantic, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 13, 2007 in the chapel at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic with the Reverend Leon Hodges, hospice chaplain officiating.
Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic is in charge of the arrangements.
