Lori's Obituary
How does one define a life? I'm not sure but this is my effort.

Lorrene Hays Feddersen (Lori) was born on October 4, 1941, in Eustis, Nebraska, to Doyle Harvey Hays and Lois Mundhenke Hays. The family lived in Eustis for 3 more years. During that time a brother, Doran Loyal Hays, and sister, Rosemary Jo Hays Pike, were added to the family.

Doyle accepted a call to the ministry in 1944 and moved his family to Naperville, Illinois, for 3 years of college and then to Richland, Illinois, during his seminary studies. Lorrene started school at Tonica, IL. The family moved to Monroe, Nebraska, where Doyle and Lois served their first EUB church. Lorrene attended Monroe during her 4 - 6 grades. The family moved to Hastings, NE for Doyle and Lois' next charge. Lorrene attended junior and senior high in Hastings. She was active in many organizations, on honor roll and represented Hastings at Girls State. She graduated in 1959.

Lorrene attended college at Westmar College, LeMars, IA, graduating in January 1963 with a subject major in social studies. At Westmar she met Donald Ernest Feddersen. They married September 1, 1962.

Don and Lorrene accepted the call to EUB Red Bird Mission for their first job. Lorrene was school secretary for many of those years and helped train 2 principals. She also taught history and social studies for a year. She was responsible for the entire church youth program for about 200 youth (community as well as dorm). Two sons were born to the couple at Red Bird. Craig on June 8, 1966 and Jim on June 5, 1968.

The family lived in Oakland, Iowa, one year while Don taught at Carson. The couple moved to Audubon, Iowa, in 1969. Lorrene was able to substitute teach for many years in the Audubon Schools. She loved to follow her former students' lives, always proud of them and their accomplishments.

Lorrene loved the arts. She tole painted for many years, selling at craft sales in over 16 states. It is estimated she painted over 10,000 mailboxes, sometimes selling 250 at one sale. She served on some local art committees as well as the Southwest Arts & Crafts Regional Committee sponsored by Extension.

Lorrene loved her Lord and the Methodist Church, of which she was a lifelong member. She served as Wedding Coordinator for several years, as well as many committees within the church. She served on the Iowa Evangelism Committee for one term.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Ernest Feddersen; 2 sons, Craig and wife, Loretta of Aurora, CO and Jim and wife, Amy of Lawton, IA; grandchildren, Brittany Feddersen of Denver, CO, Matt Feddersen of Santa Cruz, CA, Ashley Duncan of Lake City, IA, Mike Feddersen of Catonsville, MD, Tylor Audino of Lawton, IA, Cody Feddersen of Lawton, IA and Austin Feddersen of Lawton, IA; great-grandchildren, Makelsie Gorden of Lake City, IA, Tristen Gorden of Lake City, IA and Killian Feddersen of Catonsville, MD; her brother and sister-in-law, Doran and Louise Hays of Keizer, OR; and sister, Rosemary Pike, of Bangor, ME.

Visitation with family will be from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 11, 2014, at Hockenberry-England Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 12, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa. Burial will take place at a later date.
