Lottie Marie (Leeper) Kinney was born February 2, 1928, to Lee and Laura (Carmichael) Leeper near Casey, Iowa. She passed away January 14, 2017, in Atlantic, Iowa.
Lottie was raised in the Menlo, Iowa, area where she also took her schooling. She worked as a mother's helper before her marriage. On June 20, 1945, she was united in marriage to Donald Leonard Kinney at the Methodist Parsonage, in Menlo, Iowa. To this union four children were born: Leonard, James, David and Betty. Donald, her husband of 59 years, passed away on December 13, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Fontanelle, Iowa.
Lottie worked on the family farm side-by-side with her husband until they retired. They then made their retirement home near Ten Strike, Minnesota, where they lived for several years. She enjoyed working in the Bemidji, Minnesota, nursing home and fishing with Donald. She also loved gardening, canning, berry and mushroom hunting, going to auctions and being with her family. She had a green thumb and could grow anything. She also loved cooking, baking bread, cinnamon rolls, and making mints for her family's special occasions. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was so proud of them all.
When Donald's health declined, they returned to Casey, Iowa, to continue their retirement. After Donald's death, she moved to Atlantic, Iowa. When her own health began to fail, she moved into the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center. She enjoyed playing bingo, eating ice cream cones and cooking activities. She especially loved it when her family would bring the babies to visit.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; an infant grandson, Shawn Eric Kinney; a grandson, Donald Robert Kinney; step-grandson, Chad Thompson; both of her parents, Lee and Laura Leeper; parents-in-law, Leonard and Margaretha Kinney; brothers, Lloyd, Leslie, Leo, Lyle, Lavern, Leland, Larry, Louie and Leonard; sister Lettie Barnes; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
