Lucille Edith Kjergaard

Lucille Edith Kjergaard, the daughter of Clarence and Elsie Larsen Nelson, was born October 4, 1925 at her parents’ home near Harlan, Iowa and died December 14, 2011 at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 86 years, 2 months, and 10 days. Lucille was baptized at the Bethel Baptist Church in Harlan, Iowa and later confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church northeast of Kimballton, Iowa. She attended rural schools in Shelby County then graduated from the Harlan High School with the Class of 1943. Lucille was employed as a legal secretary in Omaha, Nebraska for several years. On December 15, 1946 she was united in marriage to Andreas Kjergaard at the Bethel Baptist Church in Harlan, Iowa. Three children Dorthy, Connie, and Stanley were born to this union. Lucille and Andreas operated his parent’s farm with his brother Bork and his wife Edna Kjergaard in Sharon Township then later purchased and moved to a farm in Douglas Township, Audubon County, Iowa where they raised livestock and grew grain. Lucille always had a large vegetable garden and flower garden. They retired from farming in 1979 and moved in to Audubon. Andreas died January 18, 1995. Lucille continued living in her home then moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon in March of 2004. Lucille was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church northeast of Kimballton, Iowa. She was the Sunday School Superintendent for many years. She also sang in a women’s quartet at the church and was an active member of the church circle. She was a member of the neighborhood club. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband Andreas Kjergaard; her son Stanley Kjergaard; her parents; her brother Donald and Bonnie Nelson; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Bork and Edna Kjergaard; Caroline and Elmer T. Christensen; Dagny and Howard Klinkefus. Survivors include her children: Dorthy and husband Bora Unal of Charleston, Illinois; Connie and husband Robert Hansen of Albert City, Iowa; her daughter-in-law: Holly Kjergaard of Audubon, Iowa; her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Sheref and wife Ramsey Unal and their children Ella, Rose, Lucille, and Charlie all of Charleston, South Carolina; Matt and wife Angie Hansen and their children Kylie, Makenna, Janae, and Henry all of Mason City, Iowa; Scott and wife Jeanne Hansen and their children Annemarie, Bennett, and Graham all of Charles City, Iowa; Jennifer Hansen of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; Kyle and wife Megan Kjergaard and their son Aiden all of Audubon; Beth and husband Doug Wurth and their son Jackson all of Johnston, Iowa; Cara Kjergaard of Ames, Iowa; Lauren Kjergaard of Audubon; her brother Gordon and wife Thelma Nelson of Harlan, Iowa; her Aunt Nina Nelson of Woodbine, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in northeast of Kimballton.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Friday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Doug Opp and Pastor Joy Gonnerman on Saturday, December 17, 2011, at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa.
