Lyle Marsh

Lyle K. Marsh, 81, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

Lyle Keith Marsh was born December 20, 1932, in Nodaway County, Missouri, to Roby F. and Lydia (Rae) Marsh. He grew up in Elmo, Missouri, and graduated from the Elmo High School in 1950. He attended Ozark Christian College until 1953. He married Patricia Ann Hayward August 20, 1958. They lived in various cities in southwest Iowa with Atlantic being the last one for the past four years.

He was a farmer and also worked as a guard at the Clarinda Correctional Facility in Clarinda, Iowa.

Lyle was a member of the First Church of Christ. He and Patricia donated to various missions as well as the Ozark Christian College. He was very dedicated to God and his family and taught them to live by the word of God. He also helped the detainees at the Clarinda Facility to witness God.

Feeding and watching birds, teaching Bible School, celebrating the 4th of July, and spending time with his children and grandchildren were his favorite pastimes.

Preceding Lyle in death were his parents, and his grandson, Christopher, who he helped raise.

Surviving Lyle are his wife, Patricia of Atlantic, IA; sons, Michael Marsh of Atlantic, IA, Jim (Dianna) Marsh of Neola, IA, Tim Marsh of Omaha, NE, Daniel (Donnita) Marsh of Kansas City, MO, Ron Marsh of Beaver Lake, NE, Tom (Chana) Marsh of York, NE and David (Elyse) Marsh of Chicago, IL; daughters, Patricia Martin of North Carolina, Mary (Jim) Rine of Coin, IA and Debra (Dan) Marsh-Glen of Atlantic, IA; granddaughter, Crystal (Tony) Sunderman of Atlantic, IA, who was raised by Lyle and Patricia; sister, Dorla Marsh of Clarinda, IA; 33 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation with family will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa.

The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 16, 2014, at the First Church of Christ in Atlantic, Iowa. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lamar Cemetery in Elmo, Missouri.
