Mabel Marian Petersen, the daughter of Chris and Marie Hansen Larsen, was born June 4, 1922, at her parents home near Hamlin, Iowa and died April 27, 2011 at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 23 days.
Mabel was baptized and confirmed at the Hamlin Lutheran Church in Hamlin. She attended grade school in Hamlin then graduated from the Audubon High School with the class of 1940. Mabel then graduated from the Commercial Extension Business College in Omaha, Nebraska. She moved to Audubon and during World War II she worked at various businesses in Audubon and also worked in California for a short time.
On March 18, 1948, she was united in marriage to Emery A. Petersen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Three children were born to this union. They lived on and operated several different farms in the Audubon County area. During this time Mabel helped Emery farm and was a homemaker raising their children. Mabel later worked as a clerk at Super Value and Marvs Grocery Store in Audubon. In 1978 they moved to Elk Horn, Iowa where Emery started driving truck. Mabel worked at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn for over eight years and then went with Emery on the road until he retired in 1998. They enjoyed their home in Elk Horn then moved to the Friendship Home in October of 2010.
Mabel was a member of the Hamlin Lutheran Church in Hamlin. Emery and Mabel enjoyed traveling and spent winters in Texas and Arizona for over 25 years. Mabel loved going to garage sales, but most important to her was her family. She enjoyed all the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mabel was preceded in death by her infant son Ricky Lynn Petersen; her parents; her sisters-in-law: Shirley Lillard; Iona and husband Leo Maier; her brother-in-law Edward Lane, Jr.
She is survived by her husband Emery A. Petersen of Audubon, Iowa; her children: Pam and husband Rich Petersen of Aurelia, Iowa; Gene and wife Lois Petersen of Mesa, Arizona; her grandchildren: Robby and wife Julie Anderson of Elk Horn, Iowa; Marcy and husband Todd Larsen of Kimballton, Iowa; Bryce Petersen of Sioux City, Iowa; and Bryan Petersen of LeMars, Iowa; her great grandchildren: Cole Andersen and Koy Andersen both of Elk Horn; Mandy and husband Derek Soll of Dow City, Iowa; Jesse Larsen, Justin Larsen, Madison Larsen, McKenna Larsen all of Kimballton; Cayden Petersen of Sioux City; her great-great grandson Daltyn Soll of Dow City; her sister Margaret and husband Franklin Andersen of Exira, Iowa; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Vivian Lane of Atlantic, Iowa; Orville Dean and wife LaVonne Petersen of St. Paul, Minnesota; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Hamlin Lutheran Cemetery in Hamlin, Iowa.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the Hamlin Lutheran Church in Hamlin, Iowa.
Service:
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. at the Hamlin Lutheran Church in Hamlin, Iowa.
