Malcolm Jesse Bishop was born the son of Jesse W. and Marian E. (Smith) Bishop on April 30, 1937, in Hastings, Iowa, and passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011, at the Cass County Hospice Center in Atlantic, Iowa.
Malcolm lived on the family farm in southwest Iowa until they moved to Atlantic in 1947. He graduated from the Atlantic High School and then from Iowa State University with a degree in Ag Business. On November 26, 1965, he was married to Janet Kay Shahan at the United Methodist Church in Marne, Iowa.
He loved farming and farmed northeast of Atlantic for 20 years. He later worked as a janitor at the Washington Elementary School and after retirement he worked at the Allen House.
Malcolm was a group leader for the Pymosa 4-H club, a member of the Extension Board, the Cass County Fair Board, Pork Producers, Elks Club, Lions Club and the United Church of Christ in Atlantic.
Malcolm loved his family and treated everyone he knew like family. He never met a stranger and could talk to anyone. He enjoyed reading Louis L'Amour novels, watching ISU sports and westerns on TV, and spending every 4th of July and every second Saturday for 40 years with the card club. The greatest joy in Malcolm's life was his grandchildren. They meant everything to him and his spare time was spent attending any event they were involved in.
