Marie C. Andersen, 101, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Colonial Manor in Anita.
Marie Christine Jorgensen was born on May 27, 1906, the daughter of Jacob and Lizzie(Jensen) Jorgensen in Elk Horn, Iowa.
On March 3, 1927, she was united in marriage to Peter Andersen at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn, Iowa.
Together they farmed the "home place" in Elk Horn until moving to her parents' farm near Elk Horn. They farmed there until moving to Anita in 1936.
Marie and Peter were charter members of Holy Cross Lutheran with Peter assisting in the actual construction of the church. In earlier years, Marie was very active and even played the piano there for a number of years. Marie was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita, Iowa, and attended the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Adair.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing and crocheting. Marie was always a very busy person doing general house work and canning the items grown in her garden.
Marie is survived by her son, Everett Andersen of Stuart, Iowa; her daughter, Marilyn Green and her husband, Herbert of Independence, Missouri; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Lizzie Jorgensen; and her brother, John Jorgensen.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 17, 2008, at the Hockenberry Funeral Home in Anita with The Reverend Ted Weishaupt of Holy Cross Lutheran Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery in Elk Horn, Iowa.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Monday, starting at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home.
Hockenberry Funeral Home in Anita, Iowa, is in charge of the arrangements.
