Marie E. Davis, 93, of Atlantic, Iowa, formerly of Anita, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at the Allen House in Atlantic.
Marie Evelyn was born May 22, 1916, in Corrine, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Roscoe John and Ethel Lee (Gochanour) Blue.
On December 21, 1938, she married Dallas Wayne Davis in Carroll, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived in Guthrie and Audubon Counties for a short time. In 1940, they moved to a farm north of Anita, and in 1945, a farm west of Anita. After retiring in 1980, the couple moved to Anita. In 1984, Dallas passed away and Marie lived in their home in Anita until January of 2009, when she moved into the Allen House in Atlantic, Iowa.
Marie was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Anita on January 7, 1941. She became a citizen of the United States on June 27, 1942. She was a member of the WW Club.
Marie enjoyed gardening, crocheting and quilting. In her younger days, while living in Canada, she participated in curling. Marie and Dallas spent many years camping in Mission, Texas, and Marie continued her trips there until 1993. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, fishing and camping. Marie's daughters will remember the fresh smell of her homemade bread and the laundry that was hung on lines in the house every Monday.
Marie is survived by her daughter, Hazel Nicholson and her friend, Roy Wheatley of Atlantic, Iowa, Hazel's son, Steve Nicholson and his wife, Kathy of Overland Park, Kansas, and their children, Kaarn Nicholson of Falls City, Nebraska, and Olivia Nicholson of Overland Park, Kansas, Hazel's daughter, Cindy Nicholson of Columbia, South Carolina, and her children, Nichole Perkins and her husband, Tyler and their children, Hannah and Justice Perkins of LaVista, Nebraska, Tia Cohrs of Columbia, South Carolina, and Cable Cohrs of LaVista, Nebraska; her daughter, Judy Masker of Atlantic, Iowa, Judy's sons, Douglas Masker of Battle Creek, Iowa, and his daughter, Sarah Masker of Lewis, Iowa, Dwayne Masker and his wife, Denise of Atlantic, Iowa, and their children, Justin Masker and his wife, Brandi of Atlantic, Iowa, and their children, Brent and Addison, Rachel Tener and her husband, John of Atlantic, Iowa, and Jared Masker of Atlantic, Iowa; Judy's daughter, Debra (Debbie) Pope and her husband, Jeffrey of Lewis, Iowa, and their daughter, Jessica Masker of Lewis, Iowa, her daughter, Betty Schroeder and her husband, Lowell of Manilla, Iowa, and their daughters, Julie Jamison and her husband, Chris and their children, Allison and Casey Jo of Van Meter, Iowa, Janet Brus and her husband, Kevin and their children, Collin and Emily of Manilla, Iowa, and Jennifer Thomas and her husband, Brian of Madrid, Iowa; her sister, Dorothy Downing of Rouleau, Saskatchewan, Canada; her sisters-in-law, Frances Summers of Denver, Colorado, and Frances Davis of Audubon, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Ethel Blue; her husband, Dallas; her daughter, Helen, at the age of 6 months due to an automobile accident; her brothers, Howard and Calvin Blue; her sister, Mildred Ponto; and her son-in-laws, Robert Nicholson and Edward Masker.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Anita, Iowa, with Pastor Doug Durre of the First Church of Christ officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home in Anita.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Allen House, Cass County Memorial Hospital Hospice, the Nishna Valley Family YMCA or to a cause of your choice.
Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa, is in charge of the arrangements.
