Marie Knop

Marie N. Knop, 88, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2008, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

Marie Nettie Knop was born July 7, 1919, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Otto C. and Lillian (Parmley) Rogge.

She went to school in Atlantic and graduated with the class of 1938. During high school, she met Donald Knop and they married January 20, 1942, in Missouri. They spent most of their married life in the Brayton/Atlantic area farming. They retired while still on the farm and moved into Atlantic in 2001. Donald passed away in December of 2002.

Marie was a member of a Neighborhood Club while they lived on the farm, and also a member of the Exira Federated United Church of Christ and the Women's Fellowship where she helped with many church activities and lunches.

She was a very positive, straight forward person, with a great sense of humor, who always had her red hair, nails and earrings just so. She enjoyed watching cardinals and playing solitaire. In the earlier days, she would square dance with Donald, go to the casino, and eat out every Wednesday with Donald and friends at JRs in Brayton. When the kids came home from school, they were greeted with baked goods and asked how their day went. She always saw Dave on his birthday, and when the grandkids came over, she had a goodie drawer for them full of prizes and candy. She enjoyed going to their sporting events. She didn't like worrying about much and would quip, "Time will tell me". One of her favorite foods were Twinkies, which she would share with her friends and staff at Atlantic Nursing and Rehab.

Surviving Marie are her daughter, Donnis Immel and her husband, Jerry, of Adair, IA; her son, David Knop and his wife, Mary, of Atlantic, IA; her grandchildren, Scott Paulson of Kuwait, Matt Immel of Monroe, IA, Mike (Teresa) Immel of Adair, IA, Lisa (Scott) Kingery of Casey, IA, Abby (Brian) Fiedler of West Des Moines, IA, Bo (Missy) Knop of Ankeny, IA; 9 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Cecil Knop of Tucson, AZ, Calvin (Mary Ellen) Knop of Atlantic, IA; and nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding Marie in death were her parents, Otto and Lillian Rogge; her parents-in-law, Otto and Lena Knop; her husband, Donald Knop; her sisters and their husbands, Shirley (Duane) Kleuver and Neola (Glenn) Harris; a sister-in-law, Virginia Knop; and a sister in infancy.

Visitation for Marie will be Tuesday, May 6, 2008, starting at noon with family present to greet friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic. The funeral and committal services will be private.
