Marilyn Jean Tibken

August 28, 1930 — July 28, 2011

Marilyn Jean Tibken, the daughter of Jesse LeRoy and Harriet Mary Naylor Taylor was born August 28, 1930, at her parents’ home in the Brea area near Anita, Iowa and died July 28, 2011, surrounded by her family at her home in Exira, Iowa at the age of 80 years and 11 months. Marilyn was baptized at the Anita Methodist Church in Anita and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa. She attended rural schools and then graduated from the Anita High School with the Class of 1948. After graduating she was employed with Jones, Cambridge and Carl Law Firm, which later became the Cambridge Law Firm, in Atlantic, Iowa for ten years. On September 10, 1950, she was united in marriage to Gerald Herman Tibken at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita, Iowa. Marilyn and Gerald drove the Al-Can highway to where Gerald was stationed in Alaska and they lived there for 9 months in 1952. On November 8, 1960, their twins, Douglas Gerald and Shelley Rae Tibken were born. Marilyn then was a homemaker and mother. In the early 1980’s she worked with her son Doug painting houses while he was home from college. Marilyn enjoyed her home, visiting neighbors for coffee and running errands for them. She liked to read and do crossword puzzles until her eyesight failed. She also enjoyed her “stories” especially As The World Turns and going shopping with her daughter Shelley. Marilyn was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church. She and Gerald drove in the Exira 4th of July parade for 16 years and were the Grand Marshals in 2002. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her infant brother Lyle Taylor; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Caryl Taylor; Amanda and husband Albert Schmidt; Walter and wife Lucille Tibken; Ruth and husband Paul Morgan; Bertha and husband Howard Lett; Alice and husband Floyd Klemish. Marilyn is survived by her husband of 60 years Gerald (Jerry) Tibken of Exira, Iowa; her children: Doug Tibken of West Des Moines, Iowa; Shelley and husband Mike Davis of Exira; her brother Larry Taylor and his sons Mike and Scott Taylor all of Omaha, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Monday, August 1, 2011, at 12:00 P.M. until time of service at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Monday, August 1, 2011, at 2:00 P.M. at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira.
