Marilyn Ohms

June 13, 1928 — October 2, 2013

Marilyn Joann Gibson was born June 13, 1928, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Irma (Johnson) Gibson and passed away October 2, 2013, at Caring Acres in Anita, Iowa.

Marilyn was raised in Des Moines and graduated from North High School in 1946. At that time, Marilyn's aunt Elaine was dating Vic Weber, co-captain of the Iowa State University football team, who introduced her to his Delta Chi Fraternity brother, Dewey Ohms. Dewey and Marilyn were married November 6, 1947, the anniversary of her parents' wedding date. The couple lived in Ames while Dewey attended college and then lived in Adel and Washington, IA, before moving to the farm south of Anita.

When she was young, Marilyn's father would make her laugh by singing "Oh Suzanna" to her. He soon began calling her Suzanna and to this day, her grandchildren know her not as Grandma Marilyn, but as Grandma Suzie.

Marilyn was a member of the Anita United Methodist Church since 1952, and was active in the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Lincoln Ladies Club and a 49 year member of PEO.

Marilyn read extensively and enjoyed gardening, mending and serving the community. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Ohms; her parents, Harry and Irma Gibson; her son-in-law, Mark Brown; her brother, Clint Gibson; her brothers-in-law, Maurice Miller and Marvin Ohms; her sister-in-law, Irene Ohms; her nieces, Denise Ohms and Darcy Imig; and her nephew, Marlin Miller.
