Marjorie Bertha Mcmillan

Marjorie Bertha McMillan, the daughter of Clarence F. and Verna S. (Olson) Kischer, was born March 7, 1920, in Storm Lake, Iowa and died February 14, 2017, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 96 years, 11 months, and 7 days.
Marjorie was baptized on May 2, 1920, at the Lutheran Church in Albert City, Iowa and confirmed April 8, 1934, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove, Iowa. She attended the Linn Grove Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1937, on May 20, 1937. Marjorie then studied at the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa for one year. She returned to Linn Grove and was employed at the newspaper for several years.
On November 22, 1945, she was united in marriage to David W. McMillan at the Lutheran Parsonage in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. They were blessed with two sons Jerry and Mark. They moved to Jefferson, Iowa in 1948 where David owned and operated a Hatchery. In April of 1956 they sold their interest in the business and moved to Audubon, Iowa. During this time Marjorie was a homemaker helping to raise the boys. When the boys were older Marjorie was employed as a bookkeeper and secretary for Petersen-Evans Insurance and the Audubon County Abstract Company until she retired. During retirement Marjorie and David enjoyed traveling to Texas in the winter and driving across the United States to Rhode Island to visit their son Mark who was stationed there when he served in the Navy. David died November 10, 1993. Marjorie lived in her home until she moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon in June of 2011.
. When Marjorie lived in Linn Grove and Jefferson she taught Sunday school in the Lutheran Church.
Marjorie was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon and was active in the Church Circle, Altar Guild, and Social Ministry. Marjorie and David were charter members of the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary in Linn Grove, Iowa and in Audubon she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she served as President. Marjorie was a Boy Scout leader for many years and was proud that both her sons attained the rank of Eagle Scout. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women, later the Federated Women Club, and the Friendship Home Auxiliary for many years. Marjorie enjoyed playing cards and visiting with friends. When Marjorie moved to the Friendship Home she enjoyed being involved in all the many activities.
Preceding her in death were her husband David W. McMillan; her son SSGT Jerry D. McMillan; her parents; her infant brother Willard K. Kischer; her sisters Kathryn Kischer and Joyce and husband William Roche; her brother-in-law William Schiffer; her sisters-in-law Eleanor and husband Ray Davis and Joan and husband William Norman; and her nephew Steven Roche.
Survivors include her son Mark and wife Elrane McMillan of LeMars, Iowa; her grandsons Bradley McMillan of Des Moines, Iowa and Scott McMillan of Englewood, Colorado; her daughter-in-law Ursula McMillan of Texas; her step grandchildren Brian and wife Kathy Clussman, Keith Clussman and friend Cindy Holifield and Chat and wife Karina Clussman all of Texas; her step great grandchildren Nathan Clussman and Misty Clussman both of Texas; her sister Iris Schiffer and her children Kathy, Karen, Paul, and John of Washington state; her special nephew Brian and wife Mary Davis of Idaho Springs, Idaho; other nieces and nephews Tracy Bergin, Brad Norman, and Christine Roche; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Doug Opp on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. The casket bearers will be Bradley McMillan, Scott McMillan, Rod Benton, Gary Englin, Wayne Moreland, and Stan Weihs. The family will meet with friends on Saturday morning February 18, 2017, from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa.
