Marjorie Esther Rumelhart Buttler Swensen, the daughter of Marion and Amanda Gripp Rumelhart was born April 28, 1917 in Des Moines, Iowa and died March 22, 2011 at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 93 years, 10 months and 22 days.
Marjorie was baptized at the Exira Christian Church in Exira. She attended country school near Exira and the Exira High School.
Marjorie was united in marriage to Kenneth Buttler on January 19, 1932 and lived in Guthrie Center, Iowa for a number of years. Two children: Kenneth Hugh Buttler and Phyllis Buttler Kline were born to this union.
On February 14, 1946, she was united in marriage to Edward Swensen in Troy, Kansas and they made their home in Exira, Iowa. Marjorie worked for the Jorgensen Insurance Agency and as an office nurse for Doctor Ankeny for 22 years. Marjorie and Edward celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 14, 2006.
Marjorie was a member of the Exira Christian Church and was a member of the Christian Women Fellowship. She was member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Exira. Marjorie and Edward enjoyed traveling all over the United States. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and playing bridge with her friends.
Preceding her in death is her husband Edward Swensen; her parents; her brother Leland and wife Olive Rumelhart; her brothers-in-laws and sister-in-law: Robert and Helen Hansen; Raymond Bornholdt; Leona Jensen; Hubert Jensen; Lester Andersen and Ronald Childers.
Marjorie is survived by her children: Kenneth Buttler, Jr. and wife Arliss of Guthrie Center, Iowa; Phyllis and husband Charles Kline of Harlan, Iowa; her grandchildren: Rick and wife Martha Buttler of Guthrie Center; Lela and husband Dean Ford of Oakridge, Tennessee; Ann and husband Randy Doran of Harlan; Charles and wife Jean Kline and David Kline all of Omaha, Nebraska; 17 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Virginia Bornholdt of Audubon, Iowa; Mary Childers of Satellite Beach, Florida; Eugene and wife Betty Swensen of York, Pennsylvania; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira, Iowa.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Friday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Glen Meyers on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at 10:30 A.M. at the Exira Christian Church in Exira, Iowa.
