Marjorie Pauline Haley

Marjorie Pauline Haley, the daughter of Ernest and Edna (Davis) Richie, the youngest of three children, was born December 9, 1933, in Nodaway, Iowa. She joined a brother Dale and a sister Louetta. Marjorie died peacefully surrounded by her family on October 26, 2016, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 17 days.
Marge was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Nodaway and attended the Nodaway Community Schools.
On November 30, 1949, she was united in marriage to Michael Haley, Sr. at the Nodaway Methodist Parsonage in Nodaway, Iowa. They lived in Nodaway until 1951 when they moved to Exira, Iowa where they spent most of their married years. They lived in and around Exira raising their seven children. Marge was employed at Finnerty Oil, worked in the kitchen at the Exira High School for many years, and was employed at various other jobs. But the job which was most important to her was that of being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. Marge loved to travel with Mike in his truck and also going on vacation. They enjoyed driving their camper to the Iowa State Fair and using it as “Home Base” for all to enjoy during the Fair. She enjoyed having all the family together especially the campouts at the “Haley Campground”.
Marge was an active member of the Exira Christian Church and was a member of the Christian Women Fellowship. She was also a member of the Jolly 15 neighborhood Club and the Flame Gals. Marge was a wonderful cook and enjoyed passing on the family recipes to the younger ones.
Preceding her in death were her children Larry Haley and Linda Vais; her grandson Christopher Skow; her great grandson Austin Vais; her great great grandson Creed Wilson; her parents; her brother Dale and wife Lola Richie; and her sister Louetta and husband Russell Heaton.
Survivors include her husband Mike Haley, Sr. of Exira, Iowa; her children Elaine McGovern of Atlantic, Iowa, Mike, Jr. and wife Margaret Haley of Exira, Iowa, LuAnn and husband Ron Nielsen of West Des Moines, Iowa, Pam and husband Doug Towne of Atlantic, Iowa, and Bill and wife Jodi Haley of Exira, Iowa; her grandchildren and spouses Thomas (Jamie) McGovern of Bellevue, Nebraska, Jason (Maigan) Haley of Jefferson, Iowa, Cory (Jessie) Haley of Exira, Iowa, Quinton (Liz) Haley of Ankeny, Iowa, Haley (Clete) Silverthorn of Waukee, Iowa, Weezy (Tyler) Nielsen of Des Moines, Iowa, Amanda Skow and Logan (Ashley) Skow all of Marne, Iowa, Nick Haley of Exira, Iowa, Amber (Scott) Jensen of Atlantic, Iowa, and Larry, Joe, and Danny Vais. all of Adair, Iowa; her several great grandchildren; her son-in-law Roger and wife Barb Vais of Anita, Iowa; her sister-in-law Virginia Haley of Villisca, Iowa; her nephews Ed and wife Linda Heaton and Randy and wife Joyce Heaton; other relatives and many friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
The family will meet with friends on Friday evening October 28, 206, at 5:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa. The funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Glen Meyers on Saturday morning October 29, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at the Exira Christian Church in Exira. Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira, Iowa. The casket bearers will be Thomas McGovern, Jason Haley, Cory Haley, Logan Skow, Amanda Skow, Quinton, Haley, Nick Haley, Haley Silverthorn, and Weezy Nielsen.
