Mark Albert

Mark Allen Albert, son of Donald Maurice and Betty Ann (Hansen) Albert, was born in Atlantic, Iowa August 20, 1951, and passed away July 21, 2012. He is survived by his mother, his special friend, Julie Schlater, his children, Carrie Dawn Albert and her special friend Wynn Winston, and son Jason Allen Albert and special friend, Angie Boes. Mark took delight in his three grandchildren, Jacob, Eric and Ashlynn Albert. He is also survived by two brothers, Michael (Joy) Albert, and Monte Albert, and two nephews, Jonathan and Christopher Albert.


Mark attended school in Atlantic and graduated in 1969 from Atlantic High. He earned an Associate Degree in Auto Mechanics from Iowa Western Community College. In 1971, he and Mary Barnholdt were joined in marriage. Shortly thereafter, Mark was inducted into the United States Army and served in Korea.


Mark was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed shooting, fishing, and hunting. His vocation in mechanics spilled over into an avocation with cars and trucks. The hours spent with his grandchildren were among the happiest of his whole life.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, an infant nephew, Charles Donald Albert, two aunts and two uncles.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa, from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, July 24, 2012.


A military burial will take place at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery (at Van Meter), in Adel, Iowa on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.
