Marlis Lavonne Pelzer was born in Atlantic, Iowa, February 21, 1938, the daughter of Maurice Russell and Violet Margaret (Erickson) Pelzer and passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013, at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa.
She lived in Shelby and Cass Counties, attending country schools and later graduating from the Elk Horn High School. On February 20, 1958, she married Donald Bornholdt at the Atlantic First United Methodist Church.
Marlis worked at Husker News in Atlantic. She was a member of the Buck Creek United Methodist Church where she helped with bible school and youth group. Marlis also gave of her time as a 4-H leader, and a member of the Cass County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Maple Dale Club and Farm Bureau.
In her spare time, Marlis enjoyed gardening, crocheting, fishing, watching the grandchildren at ball games and taking them to the tire swing park.
Marlis is preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Violet Pelzer, and her sister, LaDonna Walker.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Bornholdt of Atlantic; her children, Renee (Mike) Juza of Spencer, IA, Dwayne (Janelle) Bornholdt of Atlantic, IA, Rhonda (Rob) Maidhof of Broomfield, CO, and LaVon (Mick) Sager of Atlantic, IA; her grandchildren, Jacob (Chelsea) Juza of Spencer, IA, Geoffrey (Molly) Juza of Waterloo, IA, Adam Juza and Timothy Juza of Spencer, IA, Sara (Matt) Bax of Sedalia, MO, Dennis Bornholdt of Atlantic, IA, Ryan and Will Maidhof of Broomfield, CO, Whitney Sager of Huxley, IA, Jordan Sager of Shenandoah, IA and Heather and Tucker Sager of Atlantic, IA; her great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Leslie Juza of Spencer, IA, Daniel Juza of Waterloo, IA, Emily Bax of Sedalia, MO and Morgan Kirchner of Atlantic, IA; her sister, Verdelle (Jerry) Templeman of Atlantic, IA; her brother-in-law, Dave Walker of Des Moines, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 17, 2013, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 18, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., at the Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic.
Interment will be in the Brighton Township Cemetery, Marne, Iowa.
A time for fellowship and lunch will be held at the Hockenberry Family Care community room after the committal service.
Memorials may be made to the Heritage House Good Samaritan Fund.
