Martha Auerbach

Martha Belle Auerbach, 91, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2016, at Atlantic Specialty Care in Atlantic.

Martha was born May 10, 1924, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Lester and Martha (Bragg) Gillette. She attended Atlantic schools and graduated from Atlantic High School with the class of 1942. She married Bill Auerbach on February 19, 1944. She was a lifelong resident of Atlantic.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Atlantic, and had been a checker at Swanson's and Hy-Vee grocery stores for many years.

Martha was a good homemaker and had dinner on the table every night. She made quilts for all of her children and she loved to cross stitch. She devoted time to her doll collection, bird watching, and her flower gardens. Martha enjoyed bowling in her younger days, and later in life solving word search puzzles and watching golf on TV.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a son, William; and a brother, Luther.

Martha is survived by a son, Tom Auerbach of Atlantic, IA; three daughters, Cheri (Tom) Wood of Gilbert, AZ, Pam (Dan) Gipple of Shell Knob, MO, and Jayne (Randy) Thompson of Gilbert, AZ; grandchildren, Michael Wood of Gretna, NE, Tim Wood of Phoenix, AZ, Melisa Bird of DeKalb, MO, Kristen Germann of Yorba Linda, CA, Dani Buehler of Clever, MO, Cheri Auerbach of Ozark, MO, Joe Auerbach of Ozark, MO and Abby Beadle of Gilbert, AZ; great-grandchildren, Dean, Hunter, Tyler, Mattie, Dylan, Brooke, Libbie, Taylor, Raven, Blake, Addilyn, Ava, Mya, and Jax; a sister, Meroy Larson of Atlantic, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 15, 2016, at the Hockenberry Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa, with burial in the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic.

There will be no formal visitation, however, friends may visit with family at a luncheon at the United Church of Christ in Atlantic following the committal service.
