Martha Lairson

Martha Marie Lairson, 84, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Monday, August 6, 2012, at Atlantic Nursing & Rehab center in Atlantic, Iowa.

Martha Marie Simmons Lairson was born September 5, 1927 to Jesse and Mae Simmons in Arkansas. She grew up on a farm outside of Maysville, OK. She was joined in marriage to Cecil T. Lairson in Oklahoma. To this union was born two children, Charlotte Ann Lairson (deceased) and Quanna Mae Lairson (Del) Warner of Adair, IA.

Marie attended nursing school at Orange Jr College in California and was a nurse for many years there. She went by the name Marie but was known affectionately as Granny by many people. She made many quilts and gave them to people that she loved or thought needed to be loved. She enjoyed canning from the garden, cooking & baking pies. She will be missed by all.

Surviving are her daughter Quanna and grandchildren Stephanie Silvia of Colorado, Stephen Aincham of Colorado, Heather (Carl) McCann of Newton, IA & Alice Pankonen of Adair, IA. She is also survived by one brother, Billy Mack Simmons of Bartlesville, OK.


Per Martha's wishes, cremation has taken place.

There will be no scheduled visitation. A Memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, August 16, 2012, at the First Assembly of God Church in Atlantic.

A private family interment of cremains will be held at a later date.

Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa, is assisting Martha's family.
