Marvin James Dominick, the son of Leo and Irene Gerber Dominick was born November 10, 1927 at his parents’ home in Le Mars, Iowa and died October 21, 2011 at the Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City, Iowa at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 11 days. Marvin was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Le Mars, Iowa. He attended Le Mars Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1946. After school he was employed at the Swanson grocery in Le Mars, Iowa. On February 7, 1949, he was united in marriage to Norma Kelly at the St. Catherine Church in Oyens, Iowa. Five children were born to this union. In 1956 they moved to Humbolt, Iowa where Marvin was employed by Hood’s Grocery Store as the Meat Manager. In 1964 they moved to Audubon where he purchased Marv’s Grocery before purchasing a larger store he called Marv’s Super Market in 1974. Marvin sold his Super Market in 1985 and in 1986 he was employed by Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC) where he worked for the next 6 years. Marvin retired in 1992. On October 22, 2010 they moved to Sioux City where they lived with their son Gary. Marvin moved to the Sunrise Retirement Community on September 29, 2011. Marvin was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served on the Audubon City Council for eight years. He loved to go golfing and playing cards but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Preceding him in death in addition to his son Jon Dominick, were his parents; his brother Lyle Dominick and sister Shirley Sitzmann; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Eldon Kelly; George Kelly; Mary Ann Kelly; Dorothy and husband Howard Cook; Mary and husband Lorne Kneip. Survivors include his wife Norma of Sioux City, Iowa; his children: Diane Dominick of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Dr. Mark and wife Sally Dominick of Evansville, Indiana; Gary and wife Holly Dominick of Sioux City; Michael and wife Abby Dominick of Joplin, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters: Laura Betsworth of Sioux City; Ray and wife Marlene Dominick of Des Moines, Iowa; Beverly and husband John Harmelink of Spirit Lake, Iowa; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Ronald Kelly of Le Mars, Iowa; Harold Sitzmann of Le Mars; Delores Dominick of Scottsdale, Arizona; Britta Kelly of Topeka, Kansas; Phyllis Kelly of Tucson, Arizona; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Audubon.
Service:
The Mass of the Christian Burial will be conducted by Father Emmanuel Agwuoke on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at 10:30 A.M. at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Monday evening at 7:00 P.M. with a rosary at 8:00 P.M. led by the Knights of Columbus at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.
