Marvin Rudolph Seastrom, the son of Rudolph Anders and Elizabeth (Budde) Seastrom, was born February 28, 1926, at his parents’ home in Audubon County, Iowa and died May 28, 2016, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 90 years and 3 months.
Marvin was baptized and confirmed at Mt. Zion Evangelical United Brethren Church near Viola, Iowa. He attended rural schools near Coon Rapids, Iowa and graduated from the Viola High School with the Class of 1943. Marvin then helped his father operate the family farm.
On July 23, 1944, he was united in marriage to Biroda June Dawson at Mt. Zion Evangelical United Brethren Church in Viola. They were blessed with five children Marilyn, Judy, Cheryl, Myron, and Michael. They operated a dairy farm northeast of Viola for over a decade and a half before moving to Carroll, Iowa. Marvin owned and operated a Sinclair Service Station for several years. They moved to Waterloo, Iowa where Marvin was employed at B.F. Goodrich as a mechanic. Later they moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he worked for Hyster Corporation as a mechanic and repaired fork lifts. In 1984 they moved to Fairfield Bay, Arkansas and Marvin opened an auto repair shop with his son Michael where he worked until he retired. They lived in Fairfield Bay until they moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa in December of 2012.
Marvin was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fairfield Bay. His greatest joy was caring for Biroda and his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed teasing, joking, and telling “bad” jokes and puns. Marvin had his own method of repairing things and “Marvinized” many projects in their home.
Marvin was preceded in death by his wife Biroda Seastrom; his son Myron Seastrom; his grandson Charles K. Hartman, III; his parents; his brothers and sisters Wayne and wife Alice Seastrom, Wilma and husband Lynn Olsen, Hilmer and wife Ila Seastrom, and Lillian and husband Harold Andersen; his sister-in-law Betty Duvall Neyenhuis and husbands Darrell Duvall and Henry Neyenhuis; and his brother-in-law Sievert Stone,
Survivors include his children Marilyn and husband Jim Dent of Kansas City, Missouri, Judy Seastrom of Evansdale, Iowa, Cheryl and husband Steve Elliott of Elkhorn, Nebraska, and Michael and wife Sandy Seastrom of Haslet, Texas; his grandchildren Eric and wife Rebecca Cathcart of Kansas City, Missouri, Brandon Hartman of Davenport, Iowa, Stephanie and husband Justin Porta of Yutan, Nebraska, Alex and wife Meagan Elliott of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, Kimberly Seastrom and Joseph Seastrom both of Springfield, Missouri, Spencer Seastrom of Portland, Oregon and Jessica Seastrom of Conway, Arkansas; his great grandchildren Nina, Kane, Linus, Arlo, Otis, and Olympia Cathcart all of Kansas City, Missouri, and Elliott Porta of Yutan, Nebraska, Zella Elliott of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; his sister-in-law Melva Stone of Audubon, Iowa, and his brother-in-law John and wife Margie Dawson of Waukee, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Dwayne Ferguson on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at 2:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. The urn will be placed in a niche at the United Methodist Church in Fairfield Bay, Arkansas. The family will meet with friends on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
