Marvin Sorensen Byriel

June 17, 1927 — January 11, 2009

Marvin Sorensen Byriel, the son of Peter and Anna Sorensen Byriel was born June 17, 1927, at his parents home in Exira, Iowa and died January 11, 2009, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 81 years, 6 months, and 24 days.
Marvin was baptized and confirmed at the Danish Lutheran Church in Audubon. He attended rural schools near Audubon and attended Audubon High School.
On March 2, 1945, he was united in marriage to Ruby Stewart at the Grand View Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Iowa. They lived in Audubon and Marvin was employed at Roberts Feed and Seed for 36 years until Roberts Rural Supply closed. He then operated his own feed store, Marvs Feed Store for several years until he closed the store in 1986. Marvin continued to sell seed corn for Golden Harvest and was also the Maintence Man for the Friendship Village in Audubon until he retired. He then mowed lawns for several years. Marvin moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon on December 26, 2008.
Marvin was a life long member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon. He served on the church council and the ushering team for many years. He served two terms on the Audubon City Council. Marvin enjoyed hunting, golfing and enjoyed coffee everyday at the Chatterbox Caf with his friends.
Preceding him in death are his grandson Scott Byriel; his parents; his brother Donald Byriel; his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Russell Kauffman; Willard Stewart; Marvin Hiler and Donna Stewart; his half-brothers: Arthur Byriel and Kenneth Byriel.
Survivors include his wife Ruby Byriel of Audubon, Iowa; his children: Steven and wife Sherry Byriel of Atlantic, Iowa; Laurie and husband Wyman Nelson of Blair, Nebraska; his grandchildren: Sarah and husband David Farnsworth of Granger, Iowa; Stephanie Byriel of Chicago, Illinois; Andrea and husband Eric Weichers of Ankeny, Iowa; Brad and wife Annie Nelson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; his great grandchildren: Olivia Nelson of Sioux Falls; Garrett Weichers of Ankeny; his brothers and sisters: Alice Kauffman of Audubon; Harvey and wife Dolores Byriel of Ames, Iowa; Glenn and wife Donna Byriel of Boone, Iowa; Russell and wife Wynn Byriel of Shiner, Texas; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: John Stewart of Carroll, Iowa; Roene Hiler of Lake City, Iowa; Martha and husband G.L. Dawson of Warner Robins, Georgia; Maxine Stewart of Auburn, Iowa, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
The interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, IA.

Visitation:
The family will meet friends Wednesday evening at 6:00 at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, IA.

Service:
Funeral Services will be conducted by Pastor Christopher Martin on Thursday, January 15, 2009, at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon, IA.
