Marvin George Wedemeyer, 85, of Anita, Iowa, and formerly of Adair, Iowa, passed away Friday March 11, 2011, at Colonial Manor in Anita, Iowa.
Marvin, the younger of two children, was born October 20, 1925, to Charles and Elizabeth (Faga) Wedemeyer, in rural Guthrie County near Adair at his parent's home.
He attended school in Adair graduating in 1944. He worked on the farm with his Dad until he married Ruth Elizabeth Jobst on May 8, 1949. Marvin and Ruth bought the family farm where he lived his entire life until moving to the nursing home in Anita in the spring of 2007. Marvin took pride in his farming operations where he raised cattle, hogs and chickens.
Marvin was a life long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair where he served as an Elder, Trustee, Secretary and Financial Secretary. He also was a Charter member of the Immanuel Lutheran Laymen's League and Church coordinator of the Lutheran Hour over KJAN.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Ruth of Anita, Iowa; his sister, Elaine Gettler of Adair, Iowa; his sister-in-law, Ilah Mueller of Adair, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elizabeth; Ruth's parents, Adolph and Ida; his brothers-in-law, Carl Jobst, Walter Gettler and Dale Mueller; and his nephew, Dennis Gettler.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair, Iowa.
Visitation with family present will be Tuesday, March 15, 2011, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Family Care in Adair. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Adair.
