Mary Jeanette Possehn

Mary Jeanette Possehn, the daughter of Hans and Alice Ross Petersen, was born February 5, 1922, at her parent’s home in Audubon, Iowa and died August 12, 2011, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 6 months, and 7 days. Mary was baptized at the Audubon Christian Church. She attended Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1939. Mary then took Normal Training and received her Teaching Certificate. On March 14, 1940, she was united in marriage to Albert Possehn at her parents’ home in Audubon. They operated farms in Audubon County and Carroll County, until they purchased a farm in Guthrie County. They grew grain and raised livestock for many years. They operated the farm until Albert died on September 27, 1969. Mary lived on the farm for a year and then moved into Audubon. She was employed as a cook at the Hamburger Shop in Audubon for over ten years. She then was a babysitter for many families. In 1998, Mary moved to Grimes, Iowa where she lived close to her daughter Sheryl. Mary enjoyed her home in Grimes for several years then returned to Audubon where she made her home at the Friendship Home in February of 2011. Mary was a member of the Audubon Church of Christ. Mary loved to garden and when she lived on the farm always had a large vegetable garden and a large flower garden. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed sewing. She also liked to watch TV, her favorite shows being Judge Judy and Lawrence Welk. Mary was preceded in death in addition to her husband Albert by her parents; her brothers and sister Beulah and husband Max Etter, Dallas Petersen, and Duane Petersen; her brother-in-law Bernard Hunt. Survivors include her children Russell and wife Marcella Possehn of Ankeny, Iowa, Sheryl and husband Dennis Bacon of Grimes, Iowa, and Linda Possehn of Audubon, Iowa; her grandchildren Kelli Bacon of Grimes, Daniel and wife Nicki Possehn of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Heather Possehn of Audubon; her great grandchildren Deven Billings of Audubon and Isaac Lodwick of Grimes; her sisters Charlotte and husband Bernard (Pat) Patzer of O Fallon, Illinois, Wyvetta Hunt of Omaha, Nebraska; her sister-in-law Ann Petersen of Chesapeake, Virginia; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.

Visitation:
Friends may call at their convenience at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon. The family will meet with friends Monday afternoon from 12:30 P.M. until the time of the service at the Audubon Church of Christ.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Dwain Simonsen on Monday, August 15, 2011, at 2:00 P.M. at the Audubon Church of Christ.
