Mary Kearney

July 13, 1932 — January 25, 2014

Mary Lou Rattenborg was born July 13, 1932, in Avoca, Iowa, the daughter of Simon Arnold and Cena Mary (Blevins) Rattenborg, and passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa.

She grew up in Oakland, Iowa, and graduated from the Oakland High School in 1950. She then attended business school in Omaha, NE.
On February 4, 1951, she was married to Blaine Kearney at the Oakland Christian Church in Oakland, Iowa. Blaine and Mary owned and operated Kearney Pharmacy in Audubon for 39 years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Mary could always put a smile on your face.

She was a member of the United Church of God in Ankeny, Iowa, and the Audubon Garden Club. Mary enjoyed flower arranging, bird watching, crocheting afghans, cooking and traveling. Mary also loved reading a good book, solving crossword puzzles and playing solitaire. Most of all, Mary loved her family, children, grandchildren, pets and many critters the kids brought home.

She is preceded in death by her son, John Kearney; her parents, Simon and Cena Rattenborg; and her sister-in-law, Lois Rattenborg.
Mary is survived by her husband, Blaine Kearney of Audubon; her children, Laura (Jim) Mortensen of Vine Grove, Kentucky, Paul (Ellen) Kearney of Creston, Iowa, Mary Ellen (Kevin) Byers of Denver, Missouri, Alan (Sheila) Kearney of Exira, Iowa, and David Kearney of Lucama, North Carolina; 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; and her brother, Keith Rattenborg of Oakland, Iowa.

A visitation will be held from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at Hockenberry-England Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, January 30, 2014, at the Anita Community Center, Anita, Iowa, with a lunch to follow.

Hockenberry-England Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa, is in charge of the arrangements.
