Mary Ludwig

Mary D. Ludwig, 97, of Casey, Iowa, passed away Friday, October 10, 2014, at the Greenfield Manor in Greenfield, Iowa.

Mary Dora Ludwig was born October 6, 1917, to James and Mary (Gray) Crawley in Beaver Township, Guthrie County, Iowa. She grew up near Guthrie Center and Monteith, and attended country schools through the 8th grade. On December 11, 1935, she married Elmore Carl Ludwig at the Methodist Parsonage in Guthrie Center and they spent their married years near Casey.

Dora spent her time raising her children and working beside Elmore with farming and livestock. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, watching the wildlife from her window, and going dancing with Elmore many times on Saturday evenings.

Preceding Mary in death were her parents; her husband, Elmore (Skinny); her son, Wayne; her son-in-law, John Woolheater; and all her brothers and sisters, Clarence, Edith, Jesse, Viola, Chester, little George, and another brother at birth.

Mary is survived by her children, Martha (Jerry) Olsen of Des Moines, IA, Opal Ludwig of Ankeny, IA, Carl (Carol) Ludwig of Severna Park, MD, Rex (Florence) Ludwig of Minden, NV, George (Carmen) Ludwig of Rota, Spain and Carol (Terry) Moehnke of Ankeny, IA; a daughter-in-law, Karol Ludwig of West Des Moines, IA; grandchildren, Jimmy Olsen, Steve Ludwig, Cathy Ludwig, Jenn Ludwig, Vaughn Ludwig, Maria Louisa Wynne, George Ludwig, Rex Ludwig, Josh Woolheater and Cassie Woolheater; great-grandchildren, Kelly and Alexandria Olsen; Jasper and Juniper Ludwig; Maliyah Ludwig; Brian Ludwig, Anna and Lance Wynne; Mark, Jacob and Louisa Ludwig; Kingston and Gabriella Ludwig; and Taylin Woolheater.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 13, 2014, at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Adair, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 14, at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Adair, Iowa, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Casey, Iowa.

Family will greet friends at St. John's Lutheran Church in Casey, Iowa, for a time of lunch and fellowship, following the committal service.
