Marylin Boggs was born October 17, 1938, to Merritt Issac and Estella May (Flathers) Boggs in Iowa City, Iowa, and passed away October 22, 2010, at the Cass County Hospice Center in Atlantic, Iowa.
She grew up in Atlantic, and attended school in Marne, Iowa.
On November 6, 1957, she married Morris Luke in Avoca, Iowa. They lived in Atlantic until 1969, when they moved to Lewis, Iowa.
Marylin worked as a waitress most of her life. She also worked at Wal-Mart as a cashier as well as working construction with her husband and son, Ward, earlier in her life.
Having all the family at home and cooking a big holiday dinner was one of her favorite things to do. She also loved to go dancing, sing karaoke and sit in her dining room watching the humming birds outdoors. Her belief was to live life to the fullest because you sure aren't going to when you're gone. And she did just that.
Surviving Marylin are her children, Tammy (Rod) Penton of Cumberland, Ward Luke of Carson, Kurt (Traci) Luke of Lewis, Matt (Tammy Wahlert) Luke of Anita; her grandchildren, Dawn (Bill) McCory of Atlantic, Joe Wagner of Oregon, Tanya Luke of Harlan, Jessie Luke and Ryan Luke of Greenbay, WI; her step-grandchildren, Destiny Byrne and Kyle Wilson of Lewis, Michael Fleming of Council Bluffs, Eric Wahlert and Spenser Wahlert both of Anita; her great-granddaughter, Dakota Trotter; her sisters, Janice Hines of Des Moines, Mary Jane (Mac) McDermont of Atlantic, Lela Petersen of Atlantic, Muriel Riley of Lewis, Sandi (Mike) Roberts of Lewis; her brother, Leslie (Karen) Boggs of Atlantic; brother-in-law, Charles (Sandy) Luke of Atlantic; sister-in-law, Marilyn Luke of Anita; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Luke; her parents, Merritt and Estella Boggs; her parents-in-law, Roy and Winnifred Luke; her brothers, Orville and Lawrence Boggs; her sisters, Betty Ann Nichols and Kathy Sue in infancy; brothers-in-law, Frank Hines, Harley Luke, Bob Luke, Ron Riley and Marvin Nichols; and her sisters-in-law, Ruth Mahoney, Jane Potter, Connie Runyan and Kathy Luke.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 25, 2010, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.
Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Lewis, Iowa, followed by a lunch at the United Congregational Methodist Church in Lewis.
Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
