Max D. Clark of Atlantic, Iowa, entered into rest Saturday, September 4, 2010, at Atlantic Nursing and Rehab in Atlantic after a lengthy illness. He was 72 years, 11 months and 18 days of age.

Max was born September 17, 1937, to Maurice and Gladys (Rainbow) Clark in Macedonia, Iowa. He attended Macedonia community schools and graduated from Macedonia High School in 1955. Max was united in marriage to Marlene Hackett on January 19, 1958, at Marlene's parents' home near Oakland, Iowa.

Max worked as a feed store manager for several years and was employed at American Buildings for 16 years. He was also employed at Faga Implement in Adair, Iowa, for 10 years where he retired for health reasons.

He is survived by his wife Marlene of Atlantic, Iowa; his son, Mark and wife Jo Ann of Atlantic; former son-in-law, Mark Zellmer; granddaughters, Amanda and husband JR and Katie Zellmer, step-grandson, Brennon Zellmer; step-granddaughter, Jessica Haupert; four step-great-grandchildren; brother, James Clark of Des Moines, Iowa, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Ann Zellmer; his parents; his brothers, Lloyd and Marion; his sisters, Phyllis and Norma; and his niece Barbara.


A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 10, 2010, at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic. There will be no scheduled visitation but the family is having a luncheon at the church following the memorial service. The committal service will be private.
