Max Charley Mackrill was born December 13, 1935, in Griswold, Iowa, the son of Robert Jackson and Mamie (Sanders) Mackrill and passed away at the Cass County Memorial Hospital on Monday, January 2, 2012.
He attended country school in the Wiota, Anita and Adair areas. On August 4, 1954, he married Grace Wahlert. The couple lived in Omaha, Atlantic, and Anita before settling in Adair in 1969.
Max worked at Long's Furniture Store and Funeral Home in Anita, for Peoples Natural Gas, and owned Adair Floor Covering, which was on Main Street in Adair. Max loved working with his customers and helping them make their homes look nice with new flooring. Troy continues to run the business.
He was a member of the Adair United Methodist Church, the Anita Jaycees and the Adair Chamber of Commerce, as well as a 30 year member of the PAH Card Club. Max also served as Mayor of Adair for two terms.
In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards and teaching his grandchildren to do the same. Max loved visiting, joking and having a good time with friends and family, and traveling with his "harem".
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mamie Mackrill; and his brothers and their wives, Robert and Carol Mackrill Jr. and Ben and Dorothy Mackrill.
Max is survived by his wife, Grace of Adair; his sons, Perry Mackrill and life partner, Tim Condon of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Kurk and wife Linda Mackrill and Troy Mackrill all of Adair; his grandchildren, Wes Mackrill and his fiancé Jenny Mikesell of Urbandale, Iowa, Tracy Mackrill and Andrew Mackrill both of Adair; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2012, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Hockenberry Funeral Home in Adair, Iowa.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in Adair, Iowa.
A luncheon will be held at the Adair Community Centre following the memorial service.
There will be a private family burial of cremated remains.
