Maxine Carden

Maxine L. Carden., 82, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa.


Maxine was born August 4, 1928, in Evansville, IN, to Carlton and Edith (Royce) Hickerson. She obtained her high school diploma. Maxine was married to David Edward Jasper Carden on November 1, 1947, in Fowler, IN. Seven children were born to this union, David, Michael, Tom, Marge, Candyce, Maxie and Joe.

Maxine was a self-employed restaurant owner earlier in her career. She also worked at Pendleton Woolen Mills Factory and Sitel. During her retirement she drove a truck with her husband. They were known as "Momma C" & Pappa C'". Maxine was a member of the local Kiwanis Club and is a past president.

Maxine's hobbies were Bingo, playing cards and Dominos. Her favorite pastime activities were watching Nebraska football games, and Tiger Woods playing golf. Maxine also enjoyed visiting with her many friends. She always looked forward to seeing her family and the activities that go with having family gatherings.

Maxine is survived by her three sons, David Carden of Boston, MA, Michael Carden of Melbourne, FL, and Tom Carden and his wife Dianna of Dallas, TX; her three daughters, Marge Figgins and her husband Jim of Atlantic, IA, Candyce Saddlemire of Fremont, NE (ex-son-in-law Frank Saddlemire Sr. of Atlantic, IA), and Maxie Novich and her husband Don of Hiawatha, KS; 17 grandchildren, including Susan Petersen and her husband Marty of Atlantic, IA, Cory Figgins and his wife Dani of Omaha, NE, Bruce Carden and his wife Jill of Omaha, NE, Ryan Carden and his wife Mandi of Fremont, NE, and Shannon Long of Boone, IA; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and many friends.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David; her son, Joe Carden; and her brother, Norman Hickerson.

In honor of Maxine's wishes, cremation has taken place and a gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic.

Also, in accordance to her wishes no other services will be held.
