Melvin Lavern Jorgensen, the son of Chris and Mabel Clemsen Jorgensen was born October 6, 1928 at his parents home in Sharon Township near Kimballton, Iowa and died May 29, 2011 at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 23 days.
Melvin was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton, Iowa. He attended rural schools in Sharon Township Mount Zion #9 and Rosehill, then helped operate the family farm.
On April 7, 1950 he was united in marriage to Ella K. Bertelsen at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church. They farmed near Fiscus, Iowa. In January of 1952 Melvin was inducted into the United States Army. During his tour of duty he served in Korea. He was honorably discharged in October of 1953 and returned to farm. They purchased a farm east of Audubon in 1962. They raised hogs, cattle and grew grain. They retired from farming and sold the farm in February of 1977. They built a home east of Audubon. Melvin did carpentry work and was employed at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in the maintenance department. They moved to Springfield, Missouri in 1989 where Melvin did carpentry work and also worked in a door factory. They moved to Audubon in 1992 then moved to Kimballton, Iowa for a short time then returned to Audubon in February of 1995. Ella died September 18, 1996. Melvin then lived in Audubon, Phoenix, Arizona and Lincoln, Nebraska for several years before moving to the Friendship Home in March of 2009.
Melvin was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon and had served as an usher. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Audubon.
Preceding him in death in addition to his wife Ella K. Jorgensen were his parents; his infant sister Arlene Jorgensen; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Virginia Jorgensen; Anne Christensen; Karen Miller; Minnie and husband Arley Brandvold; Kenneth Bertelsen; Gordon Bertelsen and Clayton Ternquist.
Survivors include his children: Donna and husband Dave Pauley of Lincoln, Nebraska; Dean and wife Laurie Jorgensen of Broomfield, Colorado; his grandchildren: Jason Preul of Omaha, Nebraska; Breann and husband Christian Browning and their daughter Addyson of Aurora, Colorado; Andria and husband Joshua Redman and their triplets Daley, Rylan and Brogan all of Thornton, Colorado; Jenny and husband Brian Meredith and their sons Caleb and Parker all of Thornton, Colorado; his brothers and sister: Harvey Jorgensen of Springfield, Missouri; Ralph and wife Barb Jorgensen of Kimballton, Iowa; Roy and wife Lila Jorgensen of Audubon, Iowa; Correne and husband Gary Schmidt of Sheldon, Iowa; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Evelyn Ternquist of Michigan, North Dakota; Harold and wife Elsa Bertelsen of Torrence, California; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family prefers memorials to the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Tuesday evening at 6:00 P.M. at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Doug Opp on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at 10:00 A.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa.
