Meryl Fett

Meryl was called home on March 8, 2012, to be with his Lord. He had a long battle with health issues and passed away at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

Meryl Duane Fett was born May 22, 1931, in Grant Township of Guthrie County, Iowa, to Fred H. Fett and Freda E. (Dutler) Fett. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church northwest of Adair. He attended school at Grant #3 and graduated from Adair High School in 1948. He served as a corporal in the US Army, in the European field, from 1952-1954. Upon returning he joined his father and brother on the farm.

On February 12, 1956, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Jean Sheeder at the First Methodist Church of Guthrie Center. He continued to farm until 2003 at which time they moved to Adair. Along with his love for farming and feeding cattle, Meryl enjoyed playing cards, golfing, morning coffee with friends, watching athletic events and most importantly spending time with his family, especially playing the marble game. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and later Immanuel Lutheran Church, both of Adair.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Adair; two daughters, Regina Fett of Waterloo, Iowa, and Renee (Doug) Schmidt of Ocheyedan, Iowa; four grandchildren, Cortney Schmidt of Knoxville, Iowa, Brett Schmidt of Ames, Iowa, Troy Schmidt of Ames, Iowa and Kailey Schmidt of Ocheyedan, Iowa; one brother, Marvin (JoAnn) Fett of Adair; two nieces, Brenda Fett of Saxonburg, PA and Kristen (Dave) Gettler of Adair; grand-niece, Kimberly (Jade) Baker of Adair; grand-nephew, Jeremy (Amber) Gettler of Adair; great-great-niece and nephews; and many cousins and friends.

Preceding Meryl in death were his parents, Fred and Freda Fett and one sister, Doris Fett.

Funeral services for Meryl and his sister, Doris, will be held on Monday, March 12, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, 2012, at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Adair.

Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Adair, Iowa.

Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Adair is in charge of the arrangements.
