Michael Reed, 46, of Brayton, IA, (formerly of Council Bluffs) passed away Monday, January 17, 2022, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Michael Lee Davis Reed was born January 21, 1975, in Murray, Kentucky to Betty (Reed) James and Jerry Davis Reed. He grew up in Aurora, Kentucky with Betty’s older daughter, his half-sister, Debbie. He also had 2 other older half-siblings from Jerry’s previous relationship, Charles Davis Reed and Tammy Reed Gilbert both of Mayfield, KY.
Michael spent his childhood racing bicycles and getting into mischief with his childhood best friend, Sonny Joe. During his adolescent years, Michael moved to Phoenix, Arizona, and went to high school at Maryvale High. After high school, he moved to Laughlin, Nevada, where he was briefly married and had one daughter, Stephanie Marie Reed.
During the spring of 1999, he moved to Iowa and started his lifelong career at Henningsen Const., Inc. This is where he met his best friend and life-long partner, Alisa. He made countless friends throughout the years doing what he loved, building roads.
Michael’s hobbies included riding & working on his ’09 Softail Deluxe, building firearms, fishing, and cruising around in his low rider Caddy. Michael enjoyed spending time with his stepdaughter, Desiree, teaching her how to shoot guns, ride 4-wheelers and build furniture. He especially loved loading up the dogs and going for a ride. Michael had a special place in his heart for all his animals.
Michael is proceeded in death by his father, Jerry, niece, Shawna Lillard, cousin, Joe Baier, Aunt Vicky Baier, and brother-in-law, Rick Lillard
Michael is survived by his mother & stepfather, Betty & Clancey James, his wife, Alisa, daughter, Stephanie, and stepdaughter, Desiree, half-siblings, Charles Davis Reed and Tammy Reed Gilbert both of Mayfield, KY; and his niece, Rikki Lillard of Council Bluffs, IA.
A visitation with family present will be held Monday, January 31, 2022, at Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic from 9-11 AM with service to follow. A luncheon will be held following the service.
