Michaela Walters

June 17, 1987 — December 20, 2008

Michaela Jo Walters, 21, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Saturday, December 20, 2008, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Michaela Jo Walters was born to Galen and Debbie (Schade) Walters on June 17, 1987, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa.

Michaela lived on the family farm south of Anita until 1995 then moved to the family home in Anita. She attended the Anita Elementary & High School, graduating with the class of 2005. While in school, Michaela enjoyed volleyball, softball, FFA & 4-H. She also enjoyed and loved her many friends and teachers, especially Mr. Dickerson and Karen Vogl.

After graduation, Michaela accepted a position at the Anita Child Care Center. Children were an important part of her life, especially her nephews, Shawn, Jacob and Alex Ross, Dietrich and Sayer Herzberg and her niece, Reese Printopoulos. Also having a special place in Michaela's heart are Jaci Eden, Gunnar Hogueison, Katelynne Hackwell and Riley Vias.

In the fall of 2005, Michaela enrolled at Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny, Iowa, to pursue a career in nursing. Knowing how much she missed children, she went to work at Kinder Care in West Des Moines. It did not take Michaela long to realize how much she missed her family and friends and returned to Anita once again working at the Anita Day Care Center.

Wanting a career change, she went to work at P & W Egg Company, a family owned business. Michaela remained a dedicated employee at P & W even after it sold to Southwest Iowa Egg. A plus to the job was going to lunch every day at her Grandma Nina's house.

Michaela and her fiancé, Rex Luke, purchased a home in Anita the fall of 2007. She and Rex were to have been married September 26, 2009. She loved being a homemaker. Her special touch showed inside and out. Even her neighbors commented on her gardening and decorating skills. The home was complete with "Mia", the small dog, and "Fat Louie", the cat.

Michaela loved camping as a small child and in her adult life as well. The annual tubing trip to Virginia holds great memories for everyone.

As a small child, Michaela spent many hours with her Grandpa Verner and loved when he sang "Hippity Hop to the Barbershop". Another favorite were her shopping trips to the "Buckle" with cousin Chelsie. Michaela took great pride every Father's Day to buy her "Dad" that special gift - always a t-shirt with the "Best Dad" logo on it.

Michaela has made a great impression in all our lives. Her kindness and thoughtfulness will be missed dearly.
