Mildred Lavaun Fancher

Mildred Lavaun Fancher, the daughter of Roy Henry and Clara Bertha (Cerka) Somers, was born August 21, 1923, at her parents’ home in Viola Township, Audubon County, Iowa and died September 8, 2016, at the Stanton Care Center in Stanton, Iowa at the age of 93 years and 17 days.
When Lavaun was a child she attended the Evangelical Church south of Viola Center. She was later baptized and joined the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon in the late 1940’s. She attended school at the Viola Center Schools and graduated with the High School Class of 1940.
On January 27, 1944, she was united in marriage to Ora Glenn Fancher at the First Presbyterian Church Parsonage in Audubon by Pastor Gordon Zimmerman. They were blessed with three children Marilyn, Donna, and Gary. Lavaun helped Glenn on the farm while also raising their family. She raised chickens and collected the eggs daily in preparation for them to be sold. She also enjoyed gardening and always had a large vegetable garden. After the children were grown she was employed by the T-Bone Club and the Summit House where she prepared salads until she retired in the early 1990’s. In 1994 Glenn retired from full time farming and they moved to their home in Audubon. During retirement they enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and across the U.S. Glenn died March 9, 2009. Lavaun lived at home until she moved to the Stanton Care Center in Stanton, Iowa on June 6, 2016.
Lavaun was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, Iowa. She helped teach Bible School and was active in the Presbyterian Women. Glenn was a member of the Audubon County Fair Board and Lavaun took an active role in helping run the concession stand. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed quilting with her friends. Lavaun enjoyed being with her family especially with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She thoroughly enjoyed attending all their school activities and sporting events and when she was unable to attend she would listen intently on the radio and glean through the paper the next day for all the details. Lavaun was also an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan.
Preceding her in death was her husband Glenn Fancher; her son Gary G. Fancher; her parents; her brother Harold and his wives Eva Somers and Florence Somers; her brother-in-law Jesse and wife Minnie “Toots” Fancher; and her sisters-in-law Olive and husband Dale Westphalen and Violet and husband Virgil Clemsen.
Survivors include her daughters Marilyn and husband Danny Rubel of Stanton, Iowa and Donna and husband David Borst of St. Petersburg, Florida; her daughter-in-law Joan Fancher of Audubon, Iowa; her grandchildren Marla and husband Mickey Anderson of Stanton, Iowa, Danis and husband Bret Hultman of Red Oak, Iowa, Brooke and husband Jerod Burns of Brooklyn, Iowa and Justin and wife Katy Fancher of Grimes, Iowa; her great grandchildren Ragen Anderson and friend Adam Gladman and Reece Anderson all of Stanton, Iowa, Connor Hultman and Easton Hultman both of Red Oak, Iowa, Beau Burns and Ethan Burns both of Brooklyn, Iowa, Brock Fancher, Brody Fancher, and Brecken Fancher all of Grimes, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Kelley Pedersen on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. The honorary casket bearers will be Beau Burns, Brock Fancher, Brody Fancher, Ethan Burns, and Brecken Fancher. The casket bearers will be Justin Fancher, Ragen Anderson, Connor Hultman, Reece Anderson, Easton Hultman, Mickey Anderson, Bret Hultman, Jerod Burns, and Adam Gladman. The family will meet with friends Tuesday morning, September 13, 2016, at 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, Iowa.
