Mildred Marie Schwab, the daughter of Harold and Christina (Lauridsen) Lauridsen, was born March 10, 1920 at her parents’ home in Greeley Township east of Exira, Iowa and died November 7, 2011 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 91 years, 7 months and 27 days. Mildred was baptized and confirmed at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira. She attended rural school “Greeley #7” east of Exira then helped on the family farm. On February 22, 1939, she was united in marriage to Floyd Arnold Schwab at the Exira Lutheran Church Parsonage. Three children were born to this union. Mildred and Floyd operated farms in various locations in the Exira and Brayton area until purchasing their farm northwest of Brayton. Mildred always had a large vegetable garden and fruit trees and enjoyed raising and canning the produce. They sold their farm and moved to Brayton in 1962. Mildred continued raising her vegetable and flower garden and was employed at the Wise Owl Motel at the “Valley” in the house keeping department until she retired. Floyd died July 5, 2004. Mildred enjoyed her home then later moved to the Exira Care Center in 2006. Mildred was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira. She was a member of the neighborhood club and a member of the Brayton Walking gals. She enjoyed playing pinochle and was a member of the Brayton Community Club. One of her greatest joy was her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great granddaughters. Preceding her in death were her husband Floyd A. Schwab; her daughter Carol Ann Kramer; her son-in-law Richard Lowers; her parents; her brothers: Marvin and wife Ardith Lauridsen; Emmert and wife Florence Lauridsen; her brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law: Beulah Paulsen; Marvin (Jack) Schwab; Albert Moller; Marvin (Toot) Schlater; Lois and Merne Riesgaard. Survivors include her children: Larry and wife Marlene Schwab and Marcia Lowers and friend Larry Smith all of Atlantic, Iowa; her son-in-law Allen and wife Sherry Kramer of Atlantic; her grandchildren: John Schwab and Brenda Callahan of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Robert Schwab and Cindy Ward of Wiota, Iowa; David Schwab of Atlantic; Barbara and husband Jay Mackey of Maryville, Missouri; Jason Kramer of Manning, Iowa; William Kramer of Atlantic; Ryan and wife Anne Kramer of West Des Moines, Iowa; 8 great grandchildren; 3 great-great granddaughters; her sister Irene Moller of Audubon, Iowa; her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Doris Schlater of Exira, Iowa; Phyllis Schwab of Atlantic; Emmert Paulsen of Exira; nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Wednesday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Thursday, November 10, 2011, at 10:00 A.M. at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa.
