Mildred 'Millie' Eileen (Sorensen) Cochrane

Mildred “Millie” Eileen Sorensen Cochrane, the daughter of Clair Lyle and Lela Gertrude Rhinehart Kimball, was born February 13, 1928, at her parents’ home near Lorah, Iowa and died November 17, 2011, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 83 years, 9 months, and 4 days, Millie became a baptized and confirmed member of the Exira Lutheran Church as an adult on July 21, 1946. She attended rural schools “Pymosa #2” and “Oakland #7” and then attended the Exira High School graduating with the Class of 1946. Millie then was employed as a waitress for a short time. On June 16, 1946, she was united in marriage to Leo Sorensen in Hiawatha, Kansas. Three sons Stephen, David, and Paul, were born to this union. They owned and operated a farm two miles north and two west of Exira in Hamlin Township. Millie helped Leo farm and always had a large garden and enjoyed canning the produce. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for her family and their workers. Leo died July 30, 1969. Millie lived on the farm for a short period of time then moved into Exira. She was employed part time as a waitress at several area restaurants and also clerked at the Audubon Sale Barn. Millie was a teller at Audubon State Bank in Audubon and later moved into Audubon to be closer to her work. She retired from the bank in 1980 then in 1983 moved to Phoenix, Arizona. On February 11, 1984, she married Harold Cochrane in Las Vegas, Nevada. They enjoyed traveling, golf, and visiting the casinos. Harold died January 21, 2000. In July of 2000 Millie moved to Atlantic where she lived then later moved to the Atlantic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in February of 2009. Millie was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira. She was active in the church teaching Sunday school, helping with the ladies circle, and being involved in many of the church committees. Millie was preceded in death by her husbands Leo Sorensen and Harold Cochrane; her parents; her brother Roger and wife Betty Kimball; her father-in-law and mother-in-law Soren and Violet Sorensen; her sister-in-law Norma Sorensen and her brother-in-law Robert Worthington. Survivors include her sons; Stephen and Bonnie Sorensen of Ormand Beach, Florida, David and Pat Sorensen and Paul and Cindy Sorensen all of Atlantic, Iowa; her grandchildren Jason Sorensen and Kerri Rogers both of Saunderstown, Rhode Island, Chad Sorensen of Exira, Iowa, Cindy Marchese of Panora, Iowa, Casey Wulf of San Marcos, Texas, Sara Sorensen of Atlantic, Justin Sorensen of Ames, Iowa, Brian Williams of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Brett Williams of Abilene, Texas; 5 great grandchildren; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Marvin and Mardell Sorensen of Exira, Ramona Worhington of New Port Richey, Florida, Dale and Joyce Sorensen of Clear Lake, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery.

Visitation:
Friends may call at their convenience at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Saturday, November19, 2011, at 10:30 A.M. at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira.
