Muriel Riley

Muriel Boggs Riley was born October 17, 1938, the daughter of Merritt and Estella (Flathers) Boggs in Iowa City, Iowa. She attended Grant School. On June 29, 1958, she was united in marriage to Ron Kenton Riley Sr. in Avoca Iowa. They had five children.

Muriel was a homemaker, and a waitress at several restaurants in the Atlantic area. She also was the Manager at the Pester Derby Gas Station.

Muriel enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and attending Pony Express dances with her family. She sewed and crocheted many items over the years. She also enjoyed watching the Hallmark Channel. She was an excellent cook and made many memories by hosting family events.

Muriel passed away Thursday, April 29, 2021, at the age of 82, surrounded by family in her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Merritt and Estella Boggs; husband, Ronald Riley Sr; siblings, Orville Boggs, Janice Hines, Lela Peterson, Marilyn Luke, Lawrence Boggs, Betty Ann Nichols, Sandy Roberts and Kathy Sue in infancy.

Muriel is survived by her children, Sharon Riley-Leonard (Joseph), Becky Riley (Scott), Ken Riley, Ron (Loraine) Riley Jr., Scott (Sandy) Riley; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Jane McDermott; and brother, Les (Karen) Boggs.

Per her wishes, a cremation will take place with no services being held at this time. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Services are entrusted to the staff of Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.
