Muryl Vokt

Muryl Jean Rathman was born April 15, 1931, in Anita, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas A. and Marie Katherine (Tibken) Rathman and passed away Monday, December 26, 2011, at the Cass County Hospice Center in Atlantic, Iowa.

She was baptized in the Franklin Lutheran Church in Wiota, Iowa, and then confirmed in the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita in 1945. She graduated from the Anita High School in 1949.

On March 11, 1951, Muryl Jean married Merle E. Vokt at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita. The couple lived and worked on their Century Farm until retirement. In her spare time, Muryl Jean enjoyed sewing, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

Muryl Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Marie Rathman; her brother, Rex Rathman; her sister, LaVon Petersen; her sisters-in-law, Myrna Stevens and LaVere Vokt; and her brother-in-law, Orville Tibben.


She is survived by her husband, Merle E. Vokt of Adair; her children, Keith (Cindy) Vokt of Audubon, Janet (Daryl) Brauckman of Atlantic, Joyce (Craig) Lundy of Adair and Jean (Darren) Littleton of Council Bluffs; her grandchildren, Amber, Ramie, Lacey and Tyre Vokt, Tiffany Brauckman, Kyle Lundy and Justin, Coleman and Elizabeth Littleton; her great-grandson, Garrett Lockard; her brothers, Ray (Marcy) Rathman of Greenfield and Roger Rathman of Anita; her brothers-in-law, Tony Petersen of Anita and Gaines Stevens of Burlington, Kentucky; and her sister-in-law, Ruth Tibben of Anita

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Adair, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 29, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair, Iowa.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, Iowa.


Lunch will be served at the Adair Community Centre following the committal service.
