Nadine Joint

Nadine Rachel Knowlton Joint was born to Roy A. & Ethel (Smail) Knowlton, December 7, 1925, on a farm near Dale City, Guthrie County, Iowa. She passed away at the New Homestead in Guthrie Center on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at the age of 87 years, 8 months and 13 days.


Nadine attended country school, and graduated from Guthrie Center High School in May 1943. She then attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. Nadine began teaching at the age of 17, teaching all grades in a one-room schoolhouse in rural Guthrie County.


On September 11, 1949, Nadine was married to Earl Morgan Joint at the First Christian Church in Guthrie Center. They have been married over 63 years, living mostly on the farm.


Earl and Nadine moved to California in 1952 when Earl was in the US Marine Corp basic training. Nadine moved back to Guthrie Center when Earl was stationed in Japan. After Earl's discharge from the service, they moved to a farm southwest of Casey.


Nadine was a member of the Casey United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, participating in circles, teaching VBS. She also belonged to ODO Club for over 50 years.


She liked to sew, bake cookies, family dinners, and work in the yard. She also enjoyed playing cards with friends. She loved living in the country and was proud to have been a farmer's wife.


Nadine was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Ardis Lillie.


Survivors include her husband, Earl M. Joint of Casey; her daughter, Betty Jane (Bill) Elgin of Adair; grandchildren Rachel Meyer (Bradley) of Central City, IA and Ryan Elgin of Beloit, KS; great-grandson Zane Bradley Meyer; brother Melvin F. Knowlton (Nyla) of Stuart; nieces and nephews.
Visitation with family will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 23, 2013, at the Casey United Methodist Church in Casey, IA.


The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 24, 2013, at the Casey United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Casey, Iowa.
