Nadine Wheeler

September 16, 1925 — April 21, 2012

Nadine Wheeler, the daughter of John Meyer, Sr. and Ella Gude Meyer, was born September 16, 1925, at her parents’ home east of Exira, Iowa and died April 21, 2012, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 86 years, 7 months, and 5 days. Nadine was baptized at the Exira Christian Church in Exira, Iowa. She attended rural school “Audubon #2” and then graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1942. Nadine was then employed at the Exira Creamery for a short time. On October 12, 1944, she was united in marriage to Leonard Wheeler in Troy, Kansas. Four children Larry, Charles, Craig, and Sandra were born to this union. After Leonard was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army he returned to Exira and they moved to his parent’s farm east of Exira. During this time Nadine was a homemaker raising their children, cooking, baking, and gardening. She always had a large vegetable garden and a beautiful flower garden. Leonard died on February 2, 1978. Nadine lived on the farm for a short time before moving into Exira. While living in Exira she was employed at the Exira Care Center where she worked in the housekeeping department until she retired. During retirement she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and working in her flower garden. On June 23, 2010, she moved to the Exira Care Center. Nadine was a member of the Exira Christian Church and a member of the Christian Women Fellowship. She also belonged to several clubs. Nadine was preceded in death by her husband Leonard; her granddaughter Shannon Wheeler; her parents; her brothers John Meyer, Jr. and Norman Meyer and her sister-in-law DonElda Wheeler. Survivors include her children Larry and wife Sandra Wheeler, Charles Wheeler, Craig Wheeler and friend Linda Flathers, and Sandra and husband Jeffrey Bauer all of Exira, Iowa; her grandchildren Colby and wife Melissa Wheeler of Atlantic, Iowa, Matthew and wife Danielle Plante of Indianapolis, Indiana, Stacey and husband Jason Adams of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Zach Wheeler of Exira and friend Debi Rose of Overland Park, Kansas, Lindsay and husband Steve Riesberg of Carroll, Iowa, Katie Wheeler and fiancé Tony Young of Exira, Jessie Wheeler and friend Alex Antisdel of Anita, Iowa, and Jeffrey Bauer, Jr. of Sioux City, Iowa; her great grandchildren Nathan, Colissa, Marissa, Rayden, and Drayven Wheeler all of Atlantic, Isabella and Lily Adams of Bella Vista, Kyle Wheeler of Omaha, Nebraska, Hayden and Rhyan Riesberg both of Carroll, Shelby, Anthony, and Trent Young all of Exira; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Mildred Meyer, Raymond Wheeler, Carole and husband Russell Wahlert all of Exira; her beloved dachshund Copper; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira, Iowa.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Monday evening April 23, 2012, at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Glen Meyers on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at 10:30 A.M. at the Exira Christian Church in Exira, Iowa.
