Nancy Barnett

Nancy Kathryn Barnett, 71, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, January 19, 2015, at Broken Arrow Nursing Home in Broken Arrow.

She was born July 22, 1943, in Atlantic, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Helen (Stinn) Bigelow. Nancy grew up in the Walnut, Carson and Avoca, Iowa, areas and graduated from Avoca High School with the class of 1961. The day after graduation she moved to Oklahoma and remained there.

Nancy worked for Mary Lou's Bakery which was located inside Sipes grocery store in Oklahoma. She had a fifty plus year friendship with John Parks and together they owned and operated Jumbo's Hamburger Restaurant in Oklahoma. Later she operated a daycare in her home for a few years. After the daycare, she was employed for a brief time at Kmart and then transferred to Wal-Mart in the deli department until her health began to decline.

Nancy was a big fan of country music and especially Elvis. She had an extensive collection of Elvis memorabilia. She also enjoyed Chicago Cubs baseball and drag races. Nancy was the keeper of the family history as she enjoyed doing the genealogy. Family was always very important to her and every Memorial Day weekend her sister-in-law, Sherri, would bring her to Iowa, and her cousin, Mary Stinn, and she would then travel all over Iowa visiting the graves of family members. In her spare time she loved to crochet and watch television. Sherri and Nancy would call each other every week and talk on the phone while watching Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, The Voice, Ghost Hunters and many other television shows.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Bigelow and Helen (Stinn) and Marvin Holtz; infant brothers, Larry and Bruce; and infant sister, Gloria.

Nancy is survived by her brothers, Robert Bigelow of Broken Arrow, OK, and Darrell Bigelow and his wife, Sherri Rater of Collinsville, OK; nephew, Kevin (Angie) Rater of Owasso, OK; great-nephew, Carson McIntosh of Owasso, OK; aunt, Betty (Larry) Maness of Clearwater, KS; cousins, Mary Stinn of Council Bluffs, IA and Beverly Harlan of Kansas City, MO; many other cousins and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, January 23, 2015, at St. Patrick Cemetery in Walnut, Iowa.

There is no scheduled visitation.
