Nancy Joan Picht, the daughter of Delbert J. and Donna (Holm) Walters, was born July 5, 1954, in Lake City, Iowa and died June 17, 2016, at her home in Audubon, Iowa, under hospice care, at the age of 61 years, 11 months, and 12 days.
Nancy was baptized at the Woodlawn Christian Church in Lake City, Iowa. She attended Lake City Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1972. Nancy then studied math at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
On February 14, 1975, she was united in marriage to James Picht at the Woodlawn Christian Church in Lake City. Four children were born to this union. They lived in Marshalltown, Iowa where Nancy was employed at Maurice’s Men’s Clothing Store. They moved to Clutier, Iowa in Tama County and later to Hampton, Iowa. During these years, Nancy was a home maker taking care of Jim and raising the children. They lived in Ohio for a short time before moving to Audubon, Iowa in 1994. Nancy worked part-time at the Country Store as long as her health allowed until she had to retire.
Nancy was a member of the Audubon Church of Christ and enjoyed participating in the Bible study. She was a Girl Scout leader for several years. Nancy enjoyed playing cards, cooking exotic foods, and playing with her cats. In her early years she enjoyed fishing and gardening. Nancy was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and enjoyed watching the games on the TV.
Nancy was preceded in death by her infant son Scott Picht; her parents; her brother Douglas Walters; her father-in-law and mother-in-law William and Carmen Picht; and her brother-in-law Richard Picht.
Survivors include her husband James Picht of Audubon, Iowa; her children Benjamin and wife Karianne Picht of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Alisha and husband Justin Helbing of Indianola, Iowa, and Kelly and husband Kevin Klever of Omaha, Nebraska; her grandchildren Evelyn Helbing and Cozette Helbing both of Indianola, Iowa, her step-mother Marjorie Walters of Lake City, Iowa, her sister Carol and husband Dr. Steven Eisner of Lloyd’s Neck, New York; her step-brother Marty and wife Carol Dial of Omaha, Nebraska; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Lorene and husband Tony Knobbe of Davenport, Iowa, Janene and husband Michael Vonnahme of Glidden, Iowa, Connie Picht of Ankeny; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The graveside service will be conducted by Pastor Heath Hansen on Tuesday morning, June 21, 2016, at 9:00 A.M. at the Lake City Cemetery in Lake City, Iowa followed by a Memorial Service at the Audubon Church of Christ at 11:00 A.M. in Audubon, Iowa. The casket bearers will be Brian Picht, Shawn Picht, David Vonnahme, Jim Vonnahme, Jake Vonnahme, Luke Vonnahme, Blake Knobbe, Greg Eisner, Matt Eisner, and Ryan Dial. The family will meet with friends Monday evening, June 20, 2016, at 5:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. The family prefers memorials which will be distributed by the family later following the Memorial Service.
