Naomi Akers

Naomi (LeRette) Akers, 83, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Monday, January 19, 2015, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa.

Naomi (LeRette) Akers was born in Cass County, Iowa, January 24, 1931, to Guy R. and Bertha (Cain) LeRette, the youngest of three children.

She attended school at Marne and Wiota graduating from the Anita High School with the class of 1949. Following graduation, Naomi worked for a loan company in Des Moines until her marriage to Dalbert Akers on May 14, 1950.

Naomi and Dalbert lived south of Exira where he worked at Godwin Manufacturing. They then moved northwest of Anita, where they farmed for 10 years. They moved into Anita in February 1962.

She worked at the Redwood Steak House in Anita for several years and at Cappel's Ace Hardware in Atlantic for several years.

Naomi is survived by her daughter, Nancy Gordon of Salisbury, Maryland; four sons, Tim (Karla) Akers of Anita, IA, Ralph Akers of Murray, IA, John (Linda) Akers of Adair, IA and Mitchell Akers of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Jennifer (Brian) Lubbers, Adam (Nicole) Akers, Clint (Cindy) Gordon, Patrick (Lindsay) Gordon, Kimberly (Jeff) Werner, Brian (Kathy) Akers, Derrick (Emma) Akers and Amanda Akers; great-grandchildren, Oliva and Brock Lubbers, Colton and Ethan Akers, Logan, Gavin and Drake Werner, Sheridan and Collin Akers, Savannah, Cayden and Roger Akers, and Carter and Chance Gordon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dalbert on January 26, 2009; brothers, Don and Dick; sisters-in-law, Ethyl and Louise; and a daughter-in-law, Ruth Akers.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Anita, Iowa, with Pastor Leon Hodges officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita. There will not be a formal visitation but friends may meet with family at a luncheon at the Anita American Legion following the committal service.
