Naomi Jean (Jensen) Hackwell, 84, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, August 02, 2022, at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa.
Naomi Jean Jensen was born April 14, 1938, to Elmer and Leitha (Dorsey) Jensen in rural Anita, Iowa. She attended school in Anita where she graduated from high school with the class of 1956, receiving co-valedictorian.
She married Gene Leo Hackwell on July 12, 1956, while in Sterling, Colorado. They made their home in Anita and started a family.
Naomi wore many hats. While being a stay at home mom, she helped with the bookwork for the school district and was an Avon sales representative. When the kids got older she became the high school secretary and a postal clerk. She eventually became post master in Bridgewater, IA. She was a member of the Anita United Methodist Church where she was the church secretary. She also played the organ for close to 50 years and played for many weddings and funerals. Naomi was also a member of the Jaycees. Naomi’s fondest memories are attending the many activities that her grandkids were involved in and having them around her. Naomi loved to paint and working on crafts, especially with gourds. This led to her attending many craft shows.
Preceding Naomi’s death is, her husband Gene; her parents, Elmer & Leitha (Dorsey) Jensen; parents-in-law, Edward and Marie Hackwell; grandson, Brian Zimmerline; brother/sister-in-law, Edward (Dixie) Hackwell, Joan (Karl) Knutter, and Marilyn (Clark) Byrd.
Those surviving Naomi are her children, son, Chris (Beatrice) Hackwell of Mountain Home, ID; daughters, Denise (Kevin) Zimmerline of Adair, IA, Gloria (Mike) Nelson of Dundee, IA, and Mona (David) Christensen of Anita, IA; sisters, Darlene (Kendall) Petersen and Phyllis (Bob) Rodgers; sister-in-law, Sue (Andy) Christensen; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2022, at United Methodist Church in Anita, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 20, 2022, at the United Methodist Church in Anita, Iowa. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Anita, Iowa.
